Resume Making Workshop


The department of B.M.M of Pillai College of Arts, Commerce and Science held a resume making session on 16th August, 2019 in the PCACS Campus.

All the students especially from the T.Y. B.M.M. Advertising and Journalism had attended the Session after the lectures at around 10.30 am which held for around an hour.

The session started with an interactive discussion on what is a resume and what all is needed for it where the students discussed among each other and also answered the question. Then the session started wherein the resource person - Mr. Abhishek explained the concept with the help of a presentation putting the fact or bringing originality in one's resume rather than just copying it from the internet. The session also helped the students to know that all that they wrote in their resume has to correct with all the facts and figures checked properly. The session helped the students to get closure towards how a good resume should be and how one can improve their resumes. A lot of questions got answered it was indeed a very helpful session for the T. Y Students.

Red Carpet 2019

The B.M.M. Department of Pillai College of Arts, Commerce and Science held the annual Red Carpet Ad Making competition on 25th September, 2019. The event focused on getting creative advertisements from the students of B.M.M. spanning across all three years. Student groups were required to make an ad of 1-minute length choosing from three categories - product, service or public service announcement.

The event was graced by the presence of film director Akshay Chandanshiv, who has worked in the industry for years. While giving advice to the B.M.M. students, he inspired them to never let the flame of your passion die out.

It was exciting to see the FYs take on the Red Carpet challenge superbly. The SYs and TYs continued to perfect their skills over time, with out of the box concepts. Last year's winning advertisement was also showcased. It was an event where the B.M.M. students were divided by classes but united by creativity.

National Seminar on “Communication and Soft Skills”

Pillai College’s Department of Bachelor’s of Mass Media organized a One Day National Seminar on “Communication and Soft Skills” on 26th August, 2019 for the benefit of the students of Pillai College of Arts, Commerce and Science. Mr. Avirat Shete and Mr. Kaizad Patel were the speakers for the National Seminar.

During the formal Inauguration session the Department Head i.e. Mrs. Prerna Sharma and the first speaker Mr. Kaizad Patel lit the lamp and started the event. The anchor introduced the speaker for the seminar and the felicitation took place for both the speakers. The very first speaker was Mr. Kaizad Patel who spoke about the soft skills mainly required in the corporate sector and how your communication can really affect the way you succeed in future. The power point presentation was very impactful and gave the students an insight into the life of the corporate sector and sales and marketing field. After Mr. Kaizad Patel’s very impactful speech the next speaker for the Seminar was Mr. Avirat Shete from Shete Institution. The Amazing man with knowledge from almost all the sectors of the world gave insight to not only the corporate field but in general how communication and soft skills will help a human being to excel in life. Likewise the presentation even here was very distinct. Mr. Avirat Shete gave examples and spoke about different sectors which one comes across in life leaving the crowd thinking.

At the end of the session the program concluded with feedback from students and vote of thanks by Coordinator.

One Day Workshop on Revised Syllabus of F.Y.-B.A.M.M.C. (new nomenclature), Semester-1

On 20th July 2019, Bachelor Of Mass Media (BMM) Revision Workshop was held in the Conclave of Pillai College.

This session was Conducted to discuss the Revised Syllabus of First year Students (Semester 1) in Association with the Board of Studies, BMM Department, University of Mumbai. The session was Graced with the Presence of Dr. Sunder Rajdeep, Chairperson of Board of Studies (BMM Department). Other Resource Person also Attended the Session who were the Syllabus Setter of the Revised Subject. They Discussed the Syllabus and Methods of Teaching and giving Assignment. The Session Provided Prominent Knowledge about the New Changes in the Department of Mass Media. It also Higlighted that the Bachelor of Mass Media will now be called as Bachelor in Arts in Multimedia and Mass Communication as per the New Nomenclature.


BMM students Go for a Movie Outing

The B.M.M. Department had organised a movie outing for the T.Y. B.M.M. students on Wednesday, 3rd July, 2019.

The Outing was held After the lectures were done. All the Students Waited after the Lectures and Headed Towards the Bearby PVR cinema to Watch the Movie. Two of the main Subject Teachers Accompanied them for the Same.

The movie which was Selected was Article 15 as it Dealt about the Socio-political Atrocities Happening in the Rural Sections of India. The Movie was Majorly about how Difficult it is to Survive if one Raises his Voice in a Surrounding where Religion and Politics are Chosen over Humanity.

All the Students were Contented with the Outing and also had and Opinion about how the Movie was Shot and how well have they made it which was the Main Motive of this Outing. The Students were Asked to Write a Review on the Movie for the better Knowledge of their Perspectives.

Faculty Exchange Program

The department of Mass Media conducted a Faculty Exchange Program for the students of Second Year of the subject Mass Media Research. A lecture on the topic Mean, Mode and Median taught by Prof. Sindhuja Joshi.

The lecture started by the introduction of the topic, how it is co related with the subject and its practical applications. Then professor explained the students 3 methods to find out the mean of given data. Several questions were practiced to understand the topic in depth. For better understanding of students, she solved all the questions on white board and answered everyone's doubt. Lastly students were given few questions as home work for more practice.

It was a learning experience for all the students as they got different perspective of the subject.

Indian School of Media conducts a session for Bachelor of Mass Media students

Pillai's College has always believed in providing the best opportunities to students, to enhance their future. In a move to reinforce this, a session was conducted by representatives of the Indian School of Media on 26th February, 2019.

The Indian School of Media offered students in the B.M.M. stream, a glimpse of their diploma programs. The diplomas offered were for both undergraduate and post-graduate course students. The institute has also conducted a contest for scholarship, which can be won on the basis of creative achievements of the students. Students were thrilled at this prospect of getting exposure about such renowned programs, with employment opportunities in desirable industry leaders.

The Indian School of Media is an IIT-IIM Alumni initiative, established in 2011.

Department of B.M.M. organizes Movie Screening

The Department of Bachelor of Mass Media conducted Movie Screening session in the Auditorium on 22nd February, 2019. It was organized for all the students from First year till Third year.

In the movie screening session, the movie ‘The Post’ was shown to the students. The movie was a historical political thriller. The plot revolved around true story of attempts by journalists at The Washington Post to publish the Pentagon Papers, classified documents regarding the 30-year involvement of the United States government in the Vietnam War. The amazing movie gave the B.M.M. students an insight of the journalism world. Such program and efforts by the college help the student to learn through a different medium and experience new education techniques.

All the students enjoyed the streaming. It concluded with the students enjoying the classic but also learning through it.

Golden Saturday Session by Alumni Gayatri Menon

The Department of Bachelor of Mass Media organized its first Golden Saturday with PCACS alumni and HT Cafe Journalist Gayathri Menon.

On 16th February 2019, the students of TYBMM were bestowed upon with a session related to the job opportunities based on Print Journalism. The session was conducted by PCACS Alumni Gayathri Menon, who shared her journey as an aspiring editor, juggling through various different magazine productions, until she found the perfect job for herself at HT Cafe. She spoke about the decisions she took, and the few regrets she gathered along the way. Her journey greatly inspired the students, who themselves are on the verge of creating their own unique stories.

Kite Distribution by B.M.M. Students

On 14th January 2019, students of B.M.M. Department of Pillai College of Arts Commerce and Science visited Gyan Jyoti Municipality School, New Panvel to distribute Kites to the children on the holy occasion of Makar Sankranti.

The Kites were distributed to the Students of 4th, 5th, 6th and 7th Grade. All the students lined up in a very disciplinary manner to receive the kites. The happy faces of the children described how delighted they were to receive those kites. The session of distribution worked on well with the help of volunteers and melodious thank you of the children at the school.

Street Play on Road Safety

A social activity was conducted by the Department of Bachelors of Mass Media of Pillai College of Arts, Commerce and Science, Panvel on the 19th September 2018.

The social activity comprised of a street play performed to emphasize the importance of Road Safety. It highlighted the issue of wearing helmet by the two-wheeler riders and pavilion riders, as well. The skit was performed by the students under the supervision of the faculty in the atrium area of the campus at 10:15 am, during the break. It showcased the difference in the scenario of a road mishap by the simple presence of a helmet. It was a worthy effort and an effective measure to spread road safety awareness.

Pillai College of Arts Commerce and Science's Department Bachelor of Mass Media conducted the 3rd Red Carpet Event on 3rd October, 2018 in the Auditorium. The event was graced by Mr. Akshay Chandanshiv, Assistant Director of Mr. Anurag Kashyap. He has also judged the Mono Acting competition at Alegria.

This year the Red Carpet Event had a new addition of Ad Films made by the First year and Second year students of B.M.M. The event also had the screening of the Short Films made by the Third Year, to provide guidance to juniors. The event gave participants an amazing chance to showcase their creativeness as well as a platform to raise some serious issues too.

The 3rd Red Carpet Event was carried out smoothly with the help of amazing anchors and volunteers. The Event concluded with the announcement of the results and felicitation of Winners.

Acting Seminar

On 25th July 2018, the Department of Bachelor's of Mass Media in association with Arts and Media Association hosted an Acting Seminar. The Seminar was taken up by Tabrez Shaikh in the Conclave. The First Year students of B.M.M. department attended the seminar.

Tabrez Shaikh is the owner of Acting Academy. He is known for his apt communication skills. He introduced to the Basics of Acting and Personality Development. The seminar further took up topics like 'Communication Skills', 'Being Presentable' and 'Increasing Confidence'. It was a very interactive session where students were called up on the platform to enact random given scenes. With Question-Answer rounds and a Doubt Solving session, the seminar was a beneficial one. The students were able to explore a new field in the B.M.M. branch. Students interested in acting got a broader look about the field and the other students went back with a view on overall Self Improvement.

Social Activity

The Arts and Media Association of the B.M.M. Department organized a Social Activity on 2nd July, 2018. The female students of S.Y. and T.Y. B.M.M. paid a visit to a municipal corporation school in the vicinity of the college named, Gyan Jyoti Savitribai Phule School, New Panvel.

It is a vernacular medium school, so the language that was chosen by the speakers was Marathi for the students' understanding and comfort. The workshop was on the topic, 'Menstrual Hygiene' for the female students in grade six and seven. The speakers guided them on various topics such as puberty, menstrual cycle, personal hygiene, sex education, good and bad touch.

Charts were prepared by the students of T.Y. B.M.M. to illustrate the topics for a better understanding of the students. At the end of the workshop, sanitary pads were distributed to the students. It was an interactive session where the students answered the questions of the speakers.

Acting Workshop

The B.M.M. department of our college conducted an Acting Workshop under the banner of Arts and Media Association on 25th June, 2018. The speaker of the Workshop was Mr. Mohammed Tabrez Shaikh, proprietor of Tabrez Shaikh Acting Academy and Emtee films. The workshop enlightened the students to pursue a career in the field of acting and drama. It also highlighted on personality development which will help them in their respective careers.

The students of second and third year attended the workshop in the auditorium. It began with the introduction of the guest speaker. The workshop covered the basics of acting, history and its origination, the 9 emotions which are used in acting and the techniques used by legendary actors of the film industry.

It was an interactive session where the guest answered students' queries. The students voluntarily participated to enact tasks given by the guest speaker. It was an informative workshop for our media students who wish to pursue a career on the big screen.

Industrial Visit to ISDI Design, Lower Parel

S.Y. and T.Y. B.M.M. students visited ISDI, Design and Media Institute, Lower Parel on 4th December, 2017 as a part of Industry Visit. The students engaged in some of the finest learning workshops ranging from ad agency, start up, how to be an ideal media analyst and creativity in performing jobs by great minds of the industry.

The sessions were conducted by the media personnel which gave an insight to the students about the actual working of media.

Post sessions the students took a campus tour to ISDI and noticed the upgraded technology used to teach softwares and animations.

Interaction with the experts was truly enriching for the students.

48th International Film Festival of India

This year the B.M.M. students visited the 48th International Film Festival of India held in Goa from 21st - 26th November, 2017.

Students witnessed movies from classics to regional, Italian cinema to French cinema, talks by experts on topics like digital India and role of movies, Session by Dangal movie writer and so on and so forth. This 7 days fest was a treat to not just the movie lovers but also lovers of cinema like B.M.M. students. We happened to meet directors, actors and theatre people who made it worth the visit.

Overall, a good learning along with fun at Goa.

Filmmaking Workshop

B.M.M. Department organised 4 Days Workshop on Narratives and Film Structure conducted by Filmmaker-Director - Mr. Anik Ghosh. The workshop focussed on film techniques, genres of cinema, techniques of acting and script writing. The workshop received a great response by the students!

Field Trips to Bhandardhara, Raigad

T.Y. B.M.M. students along with B.M.M. Co-ordinator - Ms. Alpana Sharma visited Bhandardhara, Raigad district on 28th and 29th July, 2017 to shoot a travel advertising campaign based on the theme - Nature as a part of their subject.

The trip focussed on capturing the beauty of the place in all possible ways.

F.Y. B.M.M. Pune Industrial Visit

The F.Y. B.M.M. students were taken on an Industrial Visit to Pune, on the 2nd and 3rd July, 2017. The students first visited the Film and Television institute in Pune. They were enlightened on the technical aspects and the working of the equipments. On the next day, students were taken to the Kesari (Marathi Newspaper) office and Museum. At the Museum, students were allowed to have a look at the things used by Bal Gangadhar Tilak. Then at the Kesari office, they were explained and also shown the manufacturing of the Newspaper. Then the journey continued and also ended with students visit to The Shaniwarwada fort and the view of the hills at Lonavala.

AMA - Social Work

Giving is indeed, the most beautiful way of showering our blessings to the needy ones. Department of Mass Media along with its faculty - Mrs. Lakshmi V. distributed snacks at Balgram Ashram, Khandeshwar on 21st July, 2017.

Enthusiastic B.M.M. students also performed for the ashram kids and spent quality time with them.

Field Visit to Harihareshwar

Students of S.Y.B.M.M. along with Ms. Alpana Sharma-B.M.M. Co-ordinator had been to Harihareshwar, Maharashtra for one day trip in order to shoot a travel documentary. This trip gave students hands on experience for on site shoot, camera handling, narrative skills, technical know how and a space to explore one self.

It was a wonderful and one of its kind experimentation which helped the students to taste the life of a travel journalist.

Two Day Visit at AIR Studio, Mumbai

Students of T.Y.B.M.M. and S.Y.B.M.M. had been to All India Radio (AIR) studio as a part of their educational visit on 15th and 16th June, 2017 in good numbers. They were enlightened about various skills required to become a Radio Jockey along with the visit to technical set up of the studio. Students got the chance to interact and clear their queries with RJs, technical staff and also had an enlightening session with Mr. Anand- Senior announcer at AIR. Sir addressed the students and explained about the pitch, tone, voice and ethics of being a media person.

It was an enriching session and the visit was an eye opener for many of the students.

B.M.M. Student wins ‘Best Paper’ award at Inter-Collegiate Paper Presentation Competition

raveenaaward23rd February, 2017, New Panvel: Ms. Raveena Menon a T.Y.B.M.M. Advertising student from Pillai College of Arts, Commerce and Science won the First Prize in an Inter-Collegiate Paper Presentation Competition for students on 'Digital India – Challenges Ahead' organized by the Karnala Sports Academy Barns College of Arts, Science and Commerce at New Panvel. The event comprised of 3 streams – Information Technology, Commerce and Arts.

The Digital India program is a flagship programme of the Govt. of India with a vision to transform India into a digitally empowered society and knowledge economy. It was launched on 1st July, 2015 by P.M. Narendra Modi. The students had to choose a theme and conduct a detailed research on it, where-after the research work had to be explained through a Power Point Presentation based on certain guidelines. The presentations were judged by Dr. Farhat Shaik and the best three papers were awarded and felicitated by the CEO of KSA Barns College.

Ms. Raveena Menon won ‘The Best Paper Presentation Award’ for her outstanding research work on the topic 'Demonetisation and its impact on the common man'.

The patrons for the event included Hon. Shivdas Kamble (CEO of Barns) along with Event Advisors, Dr. Shivaji D. Sargar (HOD in English, UOM) and Mr. K. K. Bhoir (Principal of KSA Barns College).

The event was a grand success, where students (Undergraduate, Post Graduate and MBA) were given an opportunity to present their best research work in the most creative way and to develop a level of confidence in them.


National Workshop on Science Films Making at Pillai College

A Three Day National Workshop on Science Films was held at Dr. K. M. Vasudevan Pillai Campus in New Panvel from 27th to 29th January, 2017. It was jointly organized by Vigyan Prasar, Department of Science and Technology, Government of India and Department of Mass Media, Pillai College of Arts, Commerce and Science.

The workshop aimed at sensitizing students towards science communication through the medium of motion pictures. It also provided students with a hands-on experience in science film making. 60 students from various colleges all over India participated in the workshop.

Veteran Filmmaker and National Award winner, Ms. Arunaraje Patil was the Chief Guest of Honour at the inaugural ceremony. Her documentary on autism ‘Breaking the Glass Wall’ was screened during the opening ceremony.

The sessions were conducted by Dr. C. M. Nautiyal – a renowned scientist and science communicator from Lucknow, Ms. Seema Muralidhara – Television Producer - Director from Mumbai and Mr. Ritesh Taksande – Director from Pune.

Mr. Murzbaan Shroff, author of ‘Breathless in Bombay’ was the guest speaker on the second day of the workshop. He conducted a session on ‘Creating issue based, character based fiction.’

‘We learnt that the movies like Star Wars are not the only way to make science films but there are lot of other topics which should be brought in front of people.’ said Mamta Motwani, a participant. ‘The workshop helped me learn the importance of research, scripting & editing as well as how to use film as a medium to communicate various issues in the society.’ said Saurabh Kekan another participant in the workshop.

Mr. Nimish Kapoor, Head of Science Films’ Division at Vigyan Prasar, praised Pillai College for its excellent infrastructural facilities and coordination provided throughout the workshop. “It was a pleasure to conduct the workshop here. The management, teaching staff and student volunteers were very cooperative.” said Mr. Ritesh Taksande.

There was no fee charged for participating in the workshop. The outstation students were also given a free accommodation by Pillai Collge at their hostel. The participants received a ‘Certificate of Recognition’ at the valedictory ceremony.

The First Attempt

The students of S.Y.B.M.M. arranged a ‘Red Carpet Premier’ for the short films they made as a part of ‘Understanding Cinema’ subject. The event, aptly named ‘The First Attempt’ showcased 11 short films made by 11 teams from one class (S.Y.B.M.M.). The Parents, cast and crew along with their family members were invited for the screening. Social Experiment videos made by T.Y.B.M.M. Advertising students were screened first at the event followed by the ‘National Anthem’ after which, Dr. Daphne Pillai, Principal of PCACS inaugurated the event by lighting the lamp.

Co-ordinator of B.M.M. as well as subject teacher for Understanding Cinema, Ms. Nitya R. Krishnan invited the 11 teams onstage and asked the students to introduce their films. The screening began with the short film titled ‘The Curse’. Both students and their parents thoroughly enjoyed the event.

Industrial Visit to Igatpuri, Nashik

The Students of T.Y.B.M.M. were taken for an Industrial Visit to Igatpuri, Nashik on 8th – 9th August, 2016. The two days and one-night trip included visit to All India Radio, Dadasaheb Phalke Memorial, Stupa, Sula Wines at Nashik and Vipassana Meditation Centre at Dhammagiri, Igatpuri.

B.M.M. Coordinator Ms. Nitya R. Krishnan and Assistant Professor Suraj Uchil accompanied the students on the trip. The students were not only given a tour of the places they visited but also interactive sessions with the employees were held at All India Radio and Sula Wines. The students asked questions related to media planning and buying, programming, production and transmission at Radio Station whereas, they studied brand building and marketing apart from the process of wine making at Sula Wines.

The students also took part in a 10-minute introductory meditation session at Vipassana meditation centre.

The students thoroughly enjoyed the trip and came back entertained as well as enlightened by the knowledge they gathered directly from the Industrial Visit.

One Day Workshop on ‘Revised Syllabus and Question Paper Pattern of T.Y.B.M.M. (Semester V)’

The Department of Mass Media (B.M.M.) in association with Board of Studies in Mass Media (B.M.M.), University of Mumbai, organized One Day Workshop on ‘Revised Syllabus and Question Paper Pattern of T.Y.B.M.M. (Semester V)’ Journalism and Advertising on Saturday, 2nd July, 2016. The Chairman of Board of Studies, Mr. Sunder Rajdeep and board of studies members Dr. Navita Kulkarni and Professor Renu Nauriyal graced the occasion as well as addressed the audience. B.M.M. faculty from all over Navi Mumbai as well as Mumbai, participated in the workshop.
