National Conference on "Data Science: Transforming the Digital World"

On Wednesday, 11th December 2019 Department of B.Sc. I.T. / C.S. had organised a National Conference on "Data Science: Transforming the Digital World" in association with Mumbai Management Academy and Research which was held in the college auditorium.

The conference was organised to make our participants aware and understand the importance of Data Science in different sectors like IT, HR, Management and Operations. This conference was conducted in the presence of dignitaries and delegates coming from different sectors of the industry. The chief guest of the day was Dr. S.K Nanda who is a retired IAS officer and former chief secretary of home government of Gujarat. The honourable guest of the conference was Shri. Sougata Ghosh who is the Deputy Director General of IMC Chamber of Commerce and Industry.

The event also saw the presence of:

  • Dr. Gajanan Wader (Principal PCACS),
  • Mrs. Deepika Sharma (Vice principal PCACS),
  • Prof. A. N. Kutty (Academic Advisor)
  • Mr. R. N. Ganguly (Founder and Director MMAR)

The conference was divided into two sessions with the first session being a seminar and making our participants understand what role is data science playing in the industry and how it is being used in the different sectors with:

Shri. Ashishkumar Chauhan (MD & CEO Bombay Stock Exchange) being the keynote speaker of the session.

The eminent speakers of the session were:

  • Shri. Naved Imran (Associate Program Manager, eClerx Mumbai),
  • Shri. Sabeeh Ashhar (Associate Director, Quantitative Research Morningstar, Mumbai),

explaining the participants how data science will play an important role and it will grow in the coming years.

The second session of the conference was a Panel Discussion on the topic:
The opportunities & challenges for employability with the panel members:

  • Ms. Lucky Kulkarni (Country Head-HR Jeena & Company),
  • Shri. Lalit Kar (Senior VP, Head HR Reliance Digital),
  • Ms. Divya Momaya (Co-Founder, Mentor MyBoard MMB Advisors Private Ltd.),
  • Dr. Sanjeev Chauhan (Director HR Pepe Jeans India Ltd.)

National Seminar on "Artificial Intelligence"

Department of I.T. & C.S. organized a National Seminar on "Artificial Intelligence" on 28th August, 2019.

More than 300 participants attended the event, with 2 chief guests/guest speakers:

  1. Mr. Varun Singla, a Youtuber (under the channel name "Gate Smashers" with over 114k subscribers and a humongous 10 million + views) and an assistant professor from LPU, Punjab came all the way from Chandigarh to share his knowledge with the students. He started off with the basics and concluded his session with an example and hands on demonstration of the programming behind A.I. and Machine learning. His depth and knowledge of the subject clearly justified his 98.6 percentile in UGC GATE and NET exam
  2. Ms. Sowmya Jain, explained the scope and business end of the topic to all the participants

Inauguration of Certificate course ‘Data Science’ in association with MMAR

B.Sc.I.T. & B.Sc.C.S. Department is organizing a certificate course for the students on ’Data Science’ in association with Mumbai Management Academy & Research (MMAR) & Indian Merchant Chamber of Commerce and Industry (IMC).

A formal Inauguration function was organized on 29th July, 2019 at Mini Conclave at 12.00 p.m., Pillai College, New Panvel campus in the presence of diverse delegates Mr. R. N. Gangauly, Founder & Managing Director, Mumbai Management Academy & Research (MMAR), Ms. ILA Pathak Jha, Deputy Director Education (IMC), Mr. Mohan Rai, Founder & Director Imurgence

The main focus was to introduce what is Data Science and give them an idea on what is Data Science & why it can be considered as a career option.

Workshop on "Android Development"

On 22nd July 2019, B.Sc. I.T. / B.Sc. C.S. department hosted a Technical Event which focussed on Android Development. The main focus was to introduce android development and give them an idea on how android really works and also how it can be considered as a career option.

The event took place in the computer lab of the college. There were around 50 students present at the event. The event was very intriguing as it was a new and unexplored topic for many of them. The event was led by our alumni Mr. Roshan Singh who graduated in the year 2017-18. A small survey was conducted to see what the students expected to learn from the event. The event was kicked off by Mr. Roshan by briefing the students what to expect from the seminar. It was very interesting to see so many different ideas put forward by the students. Applications like Instagram, Snapchat and many others were all explained in detail and the students had a very good insight on how those applications work by the end of the seminar. The students were also given the opportunity to understand and learn the coding behind these applications.

As the seminar came to an end, the students had a very positive and optimistic response to the event and it was great to witness the event to turn out to be a success. Mr. Roshan Singh was then felicitated by Prof. Sutanuka Ghosh and Prof. Jabeen Masum with a plant sampling pot and the seminar ended with a vote of thanks.

Golden Saturday Celebration of IT/CS Department

Department of IT/CS celebrated the Golden Saturday with Alumni on account of completion of 50 years of M.E.S in 2020. The event was held on Saturday, 2nd March, 2019.

The event was organized by Computer Association Committee of IT/CS department consisting of students and faculty members.

The event started by the lamp lighting ceremony done by our alumni and began with the award ceremony felicitating the alumni and students of IT/CS department who brought laurels to the college by participating and winning in various sport events, competitions organized by the University Of Mumbai.

Annual award was distributed along with a session on “Inspirational Stories by Alumni” for which Mr. Amandeep Singh, Mr. Nitish Patil, Mr. Ravindra Vilas Malpute, Mr. Shashank Pathare, Mr. Sukhdeep Singh, Mr. Tanay Vilas Patil, Mr. Varun Nair, Mr. Vikith Jain, Mr. Ankit Goregaonkar, Mr. Prashant Shivhare, Mr. Bishal Bose, Ms. Basanti Pun and Mr. Sanket Chinatamani Gangare, alumni of I.T & C.S were invited as guest. There was an award ceremony as well for the students of all departments, who excelled in extra-curricular activities such as sports, inter-college project competitions, gaming events, technical events, etc. These winners were felicitated with certificates by the alumni.

The function also witnessed some amazing dance performance, singers singing in their melodious voice which was appreciated by everyone present for the event.

The event concluded by the most prestigious award of the department that is the ‘Student of the Year’ award.

International Conference on "Role of Engaging Digitalization in Socio-Economic Growth and Nation Building"

The Department of B.M.S. and B.Sc. I.T. & B.Sc. C.S. of Pillai College of Arts, Commerce & Science, New Panvel organized a One Day International Conference titled "Role of Engaging Digitalization in Socio-Economic Growth and Nation Building” on 15th December, 2018. The sponsors for the event were CISI (Chartered Institute for Securities and Investments) and Finmark Financials. The session was attended by 30 participants from all over India as well as abroad.

The conference provided a platform to disseminate business intelligence where in leading academicians and researchers interacted and shared their valuable experiences, ideas, innovations and research for changing and dynamic issues in different subjects.

The conference was very informative and thought-provoking. It gave insight on digitalization in Socio-Economic Growth and Nation Building. The conference concluded with Valedictory followed by lunch.

LINUX Administration Workshop

The Department of I.T. & C.S. in association with Ad-Hoc B.O.S. in Information Technology, University of Mumbai organised a Workshop on “Revised Syllabus of T.Y.B.Sc.I.T. Sem V in the subject of LINUX Administration". The event was conducted on Sunday, 22nd July, 2018.

Dr. Hiren Dand (H.O.D.) of I.T. Department of Mulund College of Commerce, also a member of A.D- HOC Board of Studies in I.T. was the guest of honor for this event. Professor Mandar Bhave of D.G. Ruparel College of Arts, Commerce and Science was also one of the resource persons. The session was attended by Assistant Professors of over 38 different colleges affiliated to the University of Mumbai.

Alumni Meet

To take a walk down the corridors of nostalgia, the Second Alumni Meet, Techies Meet 2018, was inaugurated by the Vice Principal Mrs. Deepika Sharma, Prof. Rashmi Chavan on 17th March, 2018. The meet started traditionally with the lighting of lamp by all teachers of B.Sc.I.T. and B.Sc.C.S. Department was followed by the recital song Saraswati Vandana.

The occasion was graced by more than 150 Alumni and their family members ranging across various batches from various parts of the country and outside the country as well. Speaking on the occasion, the Vice Principal underlined and praised the achievements of Alumni of Pillai College of Arts, Commerce and Science in all walks / spheres of life. She felt that it was matter of great pride for PCACS that its Alumni are holding positions of responsibility in various organizations, Private sector, Academic Institutions. Many of them are successful entrepreneurs providing jobs to others as well. She praised their contribution towards the growth of their Alma Mater and emphasized the need for further strengthening the linkage between the Alumni and PCACS Panvel and current students.

The Inaugural session was followed by cultural programme by our students and alumni and artists of Language and Cultural Dept. of B.Sc.I.T. and B.Sc.C.S. with current dance forms. Great bonhomie was observed everywhere with old students reliving their old memories with their batch mates, seniors and juniors. Many of the current students were also seen interacting with their pass out seniors and learning from their experiences. In all, the ambiance was electric with people seen chatting and dancing in groups.

The key highlight of the day was the Department felicitated 4 of its alumni, Mr. Mochesh Chandran with “Pride of PCACS Award 2018”, Mr. Anmol Shrivastav with “Young Entrepreneur Award 2018”, Mr. Vikhit Jain and Mr. Pankaj Kumar with “Budding Artist 2018” for their outstanding achievements in their field of work.

The event also included the prize distribution ceremony of various Computer Association events, BITFEST events and Best Student of the Department. Winners of the events were felicitated by alumni.

The annual general house witnessed active involvement of the alumnus and a number of commendable suggestions and proposals came up, some of which were approved and the left were set aside for later action. It was decided to strengthen the link between the current Pillai students and alumni for their support to current students in the area of training, placement, career counseling and any other help. The Meet ended with promise to meet again and everyone bid emotional farewell to each other.

The conference provided a platform to disseminate digitization and impact of digitization on life where in leading academicians and researchers interacted and shared their valuable experiences, ideas, innovations and research on subjects.

All the research papers of the conference are published in Scholarly Research Journal for Interdisciplinary Studies with ISSN (UGC Approved).

The workshop was very informative. It gave insight on how to write effective research paper. The participants got the key points to write research papers. More than 70 participants were benefitted.

Faculty Development Programme on "Data Analytics"

Department of I.T. and C.S. in association with Campus Credential, organized a One Day Faculty Development Programme on "Data Analytics" on 11th November, 2017. Mr. Divya Jotwani, Client Technical Support, IBM Systems was the resource person for this session.

Techies Alumni Meet 2017 on 25th February, 2017

The Alumni Meet was the first event of its kind to be conducted by the Department of I.T. and C.S. Alumni from Batch 1 i.e. 2001-2004 onwards were in attendance for this one-of-a-kind reunion. Around 200 alumni attended the event.

The event included the Prize Distribution Ceremony of various Computer Association events, BITFEST events and Best Student of Department. Winners of the events were felicitated by alumni.

The Department felicitated Mr. Pushpendu Rakshit with "Alumni Achiever Award 2017" for his outstanding achievements in his field of work.

Expert Guidance Session

Department of I.T. and C.S. organized an Expert Guidance Session for T.Y.B.Sc. (Computer Science) students on 21st September, 2016. Resource person for the guidance session was Mr. Vipul Saluja (M.Phil., M.Sc.) from R. D. National College, Bandra. He is member of B.Sc. (C.S.) syllabus committee of University of Mumbai.

The Department of I.T. and C.S. organized an Industrial Visit to Wipro Technologies, Pune on 23rd February, 2016. 135 students and 3 faculty members visited the company. There a seminar was organized for the students about the latest technologies they are using and their forthcoming projects.

The proud moment was when our ALUMNI working with WIPRO shared their experiences and discussed about MS Progamme and WIPRO Training.

Technical Fest : BITFEST

The department organized a "Technical Fest : BITFEST" on 2nd September, 2015. The fest had various events like digital poster making, coding competition etc.
Highlights of the event are :

  • A special computer laboratory with LAN was set up by the students of B.Sc. (I.T.) and B.Sc. (C.S.) for e-gaming.
  • e-treasure hunt: This event was, treasure hunt with a Technical Twist. The clues for the game were bar-coded by students.

Job Fest

The department organized a Job Fest, in association with SEED IMS, Vashi on 22nd August, 2015. seedThe aim of this fest was to give another placement opportunity to students of 2013-14 and 2014-15 batch. It was open to other colleges students too. Very good response was given by students from all over Navi Mumbai. The following companies participated :

Alumni Guest Lecture on "The Importance of Campus Placements"

The Department of I.T. and C.S. invited one of its Alumni, Mr. Anmol Srivastav, Sharepoint Administrator at L&T Infotech (Airoli) on 17th December, 2015. He discussed the importance of Campus Placements and critical situation of Jobs in the I.T. Industry. His interesting talks gave a real food for thought to the students and triggered a healthy discussion related to career prospects of young techies.
