The Department of Accountancy organized a Guest Lecture on Government Diploma in Co-operation and Accounting Certificate Course (GDCA) on Monday, 6th August, 2018. The Session was for the students of Master’s in Commerce (M.Com.). The students admitted to this course, would get an additional qualification along with regular M.Com. Degree. It would be beneficial for them once they pass out and apply in the professional world. It will help them secure a designation of a certified Auditor in the co-operative sectors with this Course.

Mr. G. Sudheendra and Mrs. Uma Varadhan were the Spokespersons for the session. Around 50 students participated in the guest lecture on GDCA. Overall, it was an interactive session and informative too.
Pillai College of Arts Commerce and Science, New Panvel in association with Finmark India Ltd. with National Stock Exchange conducted a Fundamentals of Capital Market Course (FCM) and Securities Operations and Risk Management (SORM). This program would help them develop skills of Financial Literacy and it also enhance their job opportunities to develop themselves.
74 Students enrolled for the course.The Workshop Commenced on 6th August, 2018 and continued till 10th August, 2018 completing 46 hours of program from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. evening. The Exam for the same was conducted on 16th August, 2018 (6 hours for two Exams and Training). The Passing Students will be certified by National Stock Exchange, Finmark and Pillai.
To carry on the agenda of Swachh Bharat Mission, the volunteers of the N.S.S. Unit conducted class-wise maintenance survey from 1st to 15th August, 2018 to create a significant difference in the condition of the classrooms. The venture also aimed at integrating the students with the maintenance of the institution in hopes of creating a harmonious environment. The Unit and volunteers, both committed to the regular upkeep of the campus. The observation of the survey was submitted to the management.
On 31st July 2018, Pillai College of Arts, Commerce and Science had organized Fresher’s Day to welcome all the newcomers of the college. The ceremony was conducted in the Auditorium. The program was conducted in two sessions. The first session was for the students from B.Com., B.M.M., B.Sc. (Biotechnology) and B.Com. (Accounts and Finance) departments. The second session was for the students from B.M.S., B.Com. (Financial Markets), B.Sc. (I.T.) and B.Sc. (C.S.) departments.
Mrs. Daphne Pillai, the Co-founder of the Pillai Group of Institution, shared her wise words on quality education that the college provides and welcomed the first year students. Further, every coordinator of the respective departments addressed the students by giving a brief introduction about their stream.
The Fresher’s were entertained and welcomed by the hosts. An introduction video of the college for NAAC was showcased. The Second and Third-year students gave stage performances on acts, comprising dance, singing and poems. The most highlighted performance was from the official college dance group, RTN (Remember The Name). They performed various dance forms like classical, western and hip hop at intervals. Further, the event was graced by the melodious voices of the senior students. A thematic fashion show was hosted by the seniors, which featured various fests that take place in the campus. The fun introductory video by the Student Council was a major hit amongst the fresher’s.
The Fresher’s Day event was graced by Rasha Kirmani and Pankaj Kumar, who are the alumni of the Pillai College. Presently, they are working as model and actor in the entertainment industry. They together judged and declared the ‘Mr. Fresher 2018’ and ‘Ms. Fresher 2018’ title.
The event winded up on a Thanksgiving note to the Student Council team for organizing such a mega event for their juniors. Also, it gave a gist to the first year students about the enthusiasm in which the Pillai College celebrates its events.
The Department of B.Com. and B.Com. (Accounting and Finance) of Pillai College of Arts, Commerce and Science had organised One Day National Conference in association with The Institute of Company Secretaries of India on 28th July, 2018. The theme of the conference was “New Dimensions in Commerce Management and Technology”. The aim of the conference was to provide a platform to disseminate business intelligence. It had teaching academicians and researchers sharing their valuable experiences, ideas, innovations and research on the changing dynamic issues and the topics related to Commerce, Management and Technology.
C.S. Avaneesh Srivastava, Chairman of The Institute of Company Secretaries of India, Navi Mumbai Chapter and C.S. Alok Mishra of Mahanagar Gas were the Guest of the event. There were three technical sessions. First session was on ‘Company Secretary as a Career Option’, second session was based on research paper presentations and third session was on ‘Soft Skills’.
C.S. Surendra Kansthiya guided the students on the theme of ‘Company Secretary as a Career Option’. Dr. Kaustubh Sontakke was the resource person of the second session. He shared his views on various research aspects. Dr. Naveen Punjabi was the resource person of third session. There were 217 participants for the event. Teaching faculty from Mumbai, Navi Mumbai and Raigad attended the conference. The conference was arranged by Dr. Kiran Deshmukh, Coordinator of the Department of B.Com., Dr. Abida Khan, Coordinator of B.Com. Accounting and Finance and Ms. Lachhmi Bhatt, Assistant Director of ICSI, Navi Mumbai Chapter.
On 28th July, 2018 Computer Association organised a technical event named – “fastest finger Hai Kya?” for first year students.
The idea to see the typing skills of the first year students. The event was easy as they just had to type a paragraph in a mobile application made by the computer association’s technical department. The event had two rounds in which in the first round they just had to type a paragraph in a mobile application, the students who will type the fastest will be selected for the second round, the second round was also similar to the first round just the difference was that the paragraph was a bit difficult than the first round’s paragraph.
The students showed great enthusiasm and participation no. for the event was really great as the whole lab was filled with participants. At the end of first round the 4 student’s got selected for the second round.
At the end of the event we finally got two winners for the technical round which were selected as they finished of their typing part within a short period of time.
The first and the very most stupendous event “Folk Dance” held by the Biotechnology Association of Pillai College of Arts, Commerce and Science stood as the kick-start for the academic year 2018-19. The event was organized on 27th July, 2018 from 11:30 onwards in the Auditorium of Pillai College of Arts, Commerce and Science. With the arrival of neoteric – fresher’s, Biotechnology department had a very rejuvenating day full of thrill and enthusiasm.
Inauguration of the event was done in the presence of all the respected teachers and coordinators of the Biotechnology Department by lightening the eternal diya. The Teacher In-charge of Biotechnology Association, Ms. Meenakshi Johri conveyed the purpose of the Association to the fresher’s and request them to participate in the forthcoming events with enthusiasm. She also introduced the student In-charges from all the classes who would be handling the events of the Biotechnology Association. The guest of honour and the judge for the event was Ms. Ramya S. Kumar, who has mastered folk dance. The other judge for the event was the alumni and the staff of the department Miss. Ashwathy Gangadharan, who is a classical dancer with 16 years of experience. Being hosted by T.Y.B.Sc. student Miss. Kanimalar and S.Y.B.Sc. student Pristo Paul, the show got its perfect catalyst to increase the crowd’s avidity. Variant types of folk dances such as Rajasthani, Koli, Bhangra, Lavani and Garba were performed by the students of S.Y.B.Sc., T.Y.B.Sc. and M.Sc.Biotechnology. Each region has its own uniqueness and style which was amazingly depicted by all the participants.
Within the short span of time, students gave their all to make this event look vibrant and alluring. Maharashtra’s Koli dance bagged first prize followed by the Punjab’s Bhangra, which won as the runner-up for the event. The show came to an end with the promising vibe of keeping the energy constant for the rest of the year and concluded with a group photo of all the participants and the teachers.
Computer Association organized an orientation lecture for the First Year Bachelor of Information Technology (B.Sc.I.T.) students in the college auditorium on 27th July, 2018. The main aim behind this orientation lecture was to make students of F.Y. B.Sc.I.T. know what the Computer Association is and what kind of events it organizes.
The event started with a brief introduction to the students about the Bachelor of Information Technology (B.Sc.I.T.) course and what all things they will be able to do after the course is completed. They were also informed about the functioning of Computer Association. It included a brief introduction of a social event that the association had recently organized in Dyan Jyoti Savitribai Phule Mahanagar Palika School. The Second Year and Third Year students went to this government school to create awareness about the harmful effects of plastic and what other things they can use as a substitute to plastic. They were also shown video clips of the earlier social events handled by their department.
Further, the students of F.Y. B.Sc.I.T. were briefed about their departmental fest – “Bitfest – Everything Starts with A Bit”. It is considered as one of the biggest college festivals of Mumbai and Navi Mumbai. The First Year students were briefed through a video, to make them understand what goes in making the Bitfest successful. It specifically had an example of last year’s fest, where a gaming event – Ludo, received the maximum entries.
The event concluded with Prof. Deepika Sharma’s insightful speech, in which she briefly told them about what Computer Association means to its each and every member and the hard work that goes behind to make every event successful of the department.
The event ended on a reminder, regarding the technical event of Computer Association, which was organized for the first year batch.
