As a part of the massive drive launched by the Maharashtra Government to increase the green cover across the State, the N.S.S. volunteers of Pillai College of Arts, Commerce & Science organized a one day tree plantation drive on 2nd August, 2019. 36 students successfully planted 180 saplings at Khuthari village in spite of heavy rains. The students showed great enthusiasm in planting them and they knew their hard work would yield more benefits.

A social awareness program on Yuva Mahiti Doot was organized by NSS unit of Pillai College of Arts, Commerce & Science, New Panvel on 30th July, 2019 which is an initiative by Maharashtra Government. The purpose of this initiative is to increase volunteerism among youths and to disseminate information about various Government schemes directly to the prospective beneficiaries through students at graduate and postgraduate level in different streams in colleges all over Maharashtra. All Volunteers attended the demo of Yuva Mahiti Doot Mobile application and Process of Registration. The students were also appealed to spread this awareness to others.
The NSS unit under the guidance of Prof. Shabab Rizvi, N.S.S. Programme Officer took the initiative to educate pupils by organising the programme which enlightened almost 500 students. The objective of the event was to focus on the causes of leprosy, signs and symptoms and to overcome it by simple and effective treatment. The leprosy Education and Rehabilitation program was conducted on 30th July, 2019.
Donor cards were issued by ALERT-INDIA and the college holds an incredible record in collecting donations and donating it to ALERT – INDIA.
N.S.S. Unit in association with Tata Hospital organized Stem Cell Transplant awareness drive on 16th July, 2019. Classwise awareness was given by Dr. Praveen from Tata hospital. Students were oriented about Stem Cell Donor Registration.
On 17th July, 2019 the unit in association with the Marrow Donor Registry India (MDRI) organized Stem Cell depository registration drive in the College campus. Stem donor registrations were done which included teaching and non-teaching and students from Pillai College Arts, Commerce and Science.
Anti tobacco awareness was organized on 11th July, 2019 to sensitize students on the harmful and deadly effects of tobacco use and passive smoke exposure and to discourage the use of tobacco in any form. Video presentation was given to the students. Approximately 850 students were benefitted from the awareness programme. A mass pledge by the students was also undertaken class wise.
As part of worldwide observation of International Yoga Day, National Service Scheme of Pillai College of Arts, Commerce & Science, New Panvel in association with Patanjali Yoga Samiti, Panvel observed this day on 21st June, 2019 in the campus. The session was carried under the guidance of a well trained yoga instructor Mr. Ram Palat Yadav, Retd. Lieutenant (Indian Navy) from Jila Prabhari – Patanjali Yog Samiti from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m.
The students were made aware about the importance and benefits of yoga. Around 100 volunteers gathered with the eagerness to gain an insight about how indispensable yoga is. The students were also enlightenment about Yoga Asanas. A number of poses were explained in detail and demonstrated by the speaker and volunteers were made to participate. The focus was on how we can improve our lifestyle by incorporating yoga in our day to day activities and acquire physical, mental and spiritual coordination. It was a healthy session and everybody celebrated the day with much fervor.
The National Service Scheme of Pillai College of Arts, Commerce & Science celebrated the second Golden Saturday with Alumni on 20th April, 2019 on account of 50 years of Mahatma Education Society in 2020.
Mr. Charanjeet Singh, President, Raigad District & National Vice President of Justice and Fundamental Rights was the Guest Alumni for the celebration of this Golden Saturday. It was a wonderful session and N.S.S. volunteers took part enthusiastically and everybody celebrated the day with much fervor.
