Biotechnology Association of Pillai College of Arts, Science and Commerce organized Gender Sensitization Awarenesses for the Students of Biotechnology on 21st December, 2019 in the Auditorium of Pillai College.
The Program was conducted by The Jimmy Foundation. The foundation is basically an organization that works at ensuring a life free of prejudice and abuse for everybody, irrespective of caste, religion, region or species. The event was lead by a motivational speaker and gender, sexuality trainer named Harish Iyer who is also the founder of the organization. He made the students aware regarding notions of sexism and how we need to be sensitized towards our fellow genders. He fathomed us about how we need not be pressurized under the stereotypical beliefs of the society and introduced us to engaging terminologies like being Gender Fluid, Cis-gender, Gender queer, how being gender neutral and respecting each and every gender is crucial to live a virtuous life.
Other guests of honour included Mr. Rakesh Sharma (Founder of Lilac Insights Pvt. Ltd.), Ms. Riya Sharma and Trupati Inamdar (Scientific support executive – Lilac Insights Pvt. Ltd).
Mr. Rakesh Sharma and Ms. Riya Sharma shared their life experience and struggles and motivated and guided students to overcome such challenges.
A skit competition under the theme of Gender equality was also conducted for the students. The competition was judged by Mr. Harish Iyer and Ms. Trupati Inamdar. Winning team was awarded with cash prize and certificates. Participation certificates were given to all the participants.
The workshop was highly enlightening and intellectually stimulating for the students of our college.
On Wednesday, 11th December 2019 Department of B.Sc. I.T. / C.S. had organised a National Conference on “Data Science: Transforming the Digital World” in association with Mumbai Management Academy and Research which was held in the college auditorium.
The conference was organised to make our participants aware and understand the importance of Data Science in different sectors like IT, HR, Management and Operations. This conference was conducted in the presence of dignitaries and delegates coming from different sectors of the industry. The chief guest of the day was Dr. S.K Nanda who is a retired IAS officer and former chief secretary of home government of Gujarat. The honourable guest of the conference was Shri. Sougata Ghosh who is the Deputy Director General of IMC Chamber of Commerce and Industry.
The event also saw the presence of:

- Mrs. Deepika Sharma (Vice principal PCACS),
- Prof. A. N. Kutty (Academic Advisor)
- Mr. R. N. Ganguly (Founder and Director MMAR)
The conference was divided into two sessions with the first session being a seminar and making our participants understand what role is data science playing in the industry and how it is being used in the different sectors with:
Shri. Ashishkumar Chauhan (MD & CEO Bombay Stock Exchange) being the keynote speaker of the session.
The eminent speakers of the session were:
- Shri. Naved Imran (Associate Program Manager, eClerx Mumbai),
- Shri. Sabeeh Ashhar (Associate Director, Quantitative Research Morningstar, Mumbai),
explaining the participants how data science will play an important role and it will grow in the coming years.
The second session of the conference was a Panel Discussion on the topic:

The conference was concluded with Vote of Thanks given by Mrs. Deepika Sharma (Vice Principal PCACS)
EDP cell had organised a session on “Opportunities and Challenges for Startups in India” on 3rd December, 2019 at 10.00 p.m. in Mini conclave. The seminar was in two session. The first Guest Speaker for the session was Ms. Surabhi Rao, Director and product development Head of her family business Narsipur Chemical Pvt. Ltd. The Second Speaker for the session was Ms. Harshala Chavan, The Founder and CEO of Readnet.
The session was attended by a total 32 Students. The session started with Ms Surabhi Rao introducing herself to the audience. Ms. Surabhi Rao highlighted on the Opportunities waiting for young Entrepreneur. The session was very informative and helpful. Students got an insight in regard to the sector that are blooming and the opportunities that they can explore as an Entrepreneur. Ms. Surabhi Rao also highlighted on the the hurdle she had to face in her business and how did she managed to come out of it
The second session was taken by Ms. Harshal Chavan a very young entrepreneur. She Started her session with her Journey of becoming an entrepreneur. Ms. Harshala Chavan had focused on the challenges faced by her in becoming an entrepreneur. Ms. Chavan also enlightened the students about the hurdle that might come up in the process of becoming an entrepreneur and how should one deal with it.
Both the young generation speakers were very knowledgeable and kind to resolve the doubts raised by the students. The feedback received by the students were very good. Students thoroughly enjoyed both the session.
On 23rd November, 2019, B.Com. Department organized a Session on ‘Golden Saturday’. It was conducted for the B.Com. students of PCACS in L-302 at 11:30 a.m. by Mr. Inder U. Sharma, B.Com. alumni from the batch 2008. He is a Founder and Sr. Advisor of Awaaz Service Society.
The session included guidance on blood donation. He shared his wonderful experiences of college life and gave information about his NGO. He also talked about his activities towards women and children well-being. He gave an insight of various events that he has conducted in Navi Mumbai. Mr. Sharma had a very interactive approach throughout the session, which was liked the by the B.Com. students of PCACS.
Women Development Cell organized a Session on “Women Self-Empowerment: The need of Contemporary Society” for girl students by Ms. Gurpreet Kaur Khalsa, Founder, Gurpreet Kaur Leadership & Development Mumbai on 23rd November, 2019. The session was to enhance self-esteem and self-confidence of the girl students.
On 1st October, 2019, Health Check-Up Committee organized a Workshop on “Body Fat Analysis”. It was conducted for the teaching and non-teaching staff of PCACS in the Conclave. Fitness experts Mr. Parasram Bajantri and Mrs. Harshala Bajantri educated the importance of fitness in our everyday life. The session included topics like body fat, metabolism and balanced diet. They had a very interactive approach throughout the session, which was liked the staff of PCACS.
Towards the end of the session, Mr. Parasram and Mrs. Harshala conducted free Body Fat Check-up using the hi-tech machines. Both teaching as well as non-teaching staff actively participated in the check-up.
Staff Welfare Committee conducted yoga session on Saturday 1st October, (Tuesday) 2019 at 8 a.m. to 9:30 a.m. in Old Canteen area for the Teaching and Non-teaching staff.
Mrs. Suvarna Anavkar gave a session on yoga, where she made teachers understand the importance of exercise and yoga, she conducted a practical session to make the staff aware of their importance of yoga. She also addressed the queries of the audience.
Staff welfare committee organized Diwali Celebration on 19th October (Saturday), 2019 at 10:00 a.m. in the Atruim for the Teaching and Non-teaching staff. Photo sessions and various Fun Activities along with refreshments were hosted.
