A noble gesture to help a fellow human being is Blood donation, carried out when a person voluntarily agrees for blood to be drawn with the intention of donating it. Pillai College of Arts, Commerce and Science in collaboration with Indian Red Cross Society (Bombay City Branch Blood Centre) and St. George Hospital organized a voluntary Blood Donation Camp on 20th August, 2014 at Dr. K. M. Vasudevan Pillai Campus.
A total of 323 blood units have been collected from voluntary blood donors. 123 blood units were collected by St. George Hospital while Indian Red Cross Society collected 197 units. The Blood Donation Camp saw a lot of youths participating in blood donation which is an encouraging indicator of voluntarism and awareness about blood donation. This was done under the abled guidance of Principal Dr. Daphne Pillai and NSS Program Officer Prof. Shabab Rizvi. The registration and screening desks set up by the blood banks and NSS volunteers, with a view of recipient, donor and blood testing safety measures were appreciative. The effort of NSS leader Nayan Koli and Ruchika Patel were all paid with the number of blood units collected. Overall the donation camp was a great success.
