A noble gesture to help a fellow human being is Blood donation, carried out when a person voluntarily agrees for blood to be drawn with the intention of donating it. Pillai College of Arts, Commerce and Science in collaboration with Indian Red Cross Society (Bombay City Branch Blood Centre) and St. George Hospital organized a voluntary Blood Donation Camp on 20th August, 2014 at Dr. K. M. Vasudevan Pillai Campus.
A total of 323 blood units have been collected from voluntary blood donors. 123 blood units were collected by St. George Hospital while Indian Red Cross Society collected 197 units. The Blood Donation Camp saw a lot of youths participating in blood donation which is an encouraging indicator of voluntarism and awareness about blood donation. This was done under the abled guidance of Principal Dr. Daphne Pillai and NSS Program Officer Prof. Shabab Rizvi. The registration and screening desks set up by the blood banks and NSS volunteers, with a view of recipient, donor and blood testing safety measures were appreciative. The effort of NSS leader Nayan Koli and Ruchika Patel were all paid with the number of blood units collected. Overall the donation camp was a great success.
NSS Unit of Pillai College of Arts, Commerce and Science, New Panvel organized a Seminar on Leprosy Education and Rehabilitation Treatment by an ALERT – INDIA a leading NGO in the area of healthcare on 4th July, 2014. 435 students had attended the seminar from morning to evening in the Dr. K. M. Vasudevan Pillai Campus. The donor cards were given to the students for the collection of funds. Around Rs. 40,000 were collected from the students and money was donated to Alert – India.
NSS started the year with enrollment of students as NSS volunteers for the academic year 2014-15 from Bachelor of Commerce and Bachelor of Commerce (Financial Markets) on 2nd July, 2014.
On 20th September, 2013, Wednesday, National Service Scheme (N.S.S.) organised a Seminar on Pulse Polio Drive in which all the N.S.S. volunteer were given a training on how to give a polio dose to childrens and on Sunday, 22nd September, 2013. NSS had a pulse polio drive in panvel and more then 1000 childrens where given a polio dose.
With the help of Sir. J. J. Mahanagar Raktapedhi, Mumbai managed by (State Blood Transfusion Council, Govt. of Maharashtra) and Blood Bank St. George’s Hospital, Mumbai, NSS jointly organised a Blood Donation Camp in college campus on 22nd August, 2013 and we had successfully collected 280 blood bags/bottle.
