To carry on the agenda of Swachh Bharat Mission, the volunteers of the N.S.S. Unit conducted class-wise maintenance survey from 1st to 15th August, 2018 to create a significant difference in the condition of the classrooms. The venture also aimed at integrating the students with the maintenance of the institution in hopes of creating a harmonious environment. The Unit and volunteers, both committed to the regular upkeep of the campus. The observation of the survey was submitted to the management.
On 26th July, 2018, The National Service Scheme Unit of Pillai College of Arts, Commerce and Science conducted an extensive plantation programme. It was held at the adopted village of Siddhi Karole in Kharghar, Navi Mumbai. This environmental drive was observed to restore the eco-balance of the afforestation. The NSS volunteers were highly enthusiastic about it and did it wholeheartedly and made this campaign a great success. The students planted saplings, fenced them and watered the plants. The general public was encouraged by looking at the enthusiasm of the students doing the deed. This drive created a great stir among the society.
Due to urbanization, the animals are losing their natural habitat and also it has bad effects on the environment and hence it causes climatic change. Trees are like the lungs of the planet and we must take some small steps to conserve it.
In June 2018, Maharashtra Pollution Control Board introduced a Plastic Ban in the state. The Pillai College of Arts, Commerce and Science welcomed this drive and actively contributed in the same. On 28th and 29th June 2018, the National Service Scheme (NSS) Unit initiated a plastic ban in the college premises. The NSS In-charge Prof. Shabab Rizvi and volunteers visited every class of the college. They replaced college’s old identity card plastic cover with the high-quality cover for all the students of PCACS.
Plastic is non-biodegradable and extremely hazardous to the environment. They’re one of the major reasons for the filthy garbage that is caused in our society. The NSS Unit has always been working for the betterment of the society and environment. It has successfully carried out social activities like the literacy drive for underprivileged students, tree plantation, awareness about saving the environment, etc.
As part of worldwide observation of International Yoga Day, National Service Scheme of Pillai College of Arts, Commerce & Science, New Panvel in association with Patanjali Yoga Samiti, Panvel also observed this day on 19th June, 2018 in the campus. A yoga training session from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. was organized in which students, teaching and non-teaching staff took part enthusiastically and practiced various ‘asanas’ of Yoga and pranayama. A Yoga practitioner and his team were invited to demonstrate various Yoga postures and asanas. It was a healthy session and everybody celebrated the day with much fervour.
The N.S.S. cell, University of Mumbai and N.S.S. unit of Pillai College of Arts, Commerce & Science jointly organized Ten Grace Marks Scrutiny Programme for North Raigad Zone on 26th February, 2018. The session was headed by Prof. Dr. Wani M. N., Prof. Dr. Madhukar A. Badgujar. N.S.S. programme officers from 17 colleges participated in the programme.
The N.S.S. Unit and Management Association of Pillai College of Arts, Commerce & Science in association with Ashoka Buildcon Ltd. organized Road Safety Awareness on the occasion of National Road Safety Week on 17th January, 2018.
The guest speakers emphasized the need for following traffic rules, wearing helmet, avoiding use of mobile phone while driving and drunk driving. The program also incorporated an array of programmes like poster making and essay writing competitions focusing on awareness of road safety, traffic rules and prevention of accidents and certificates were also given for the winning participants.
National Youth Day is celebrated with the great joy and enthusiasm in India every year on 12th of January. It is celebrated to commemorate the birthday of Swami Vivekananda, maker of the modern India. The N.S.S. Unit of our college screened an inspirational video of Swami Vivekananda to the students on 12th January, 2018 with an aim to imbibe the students and youth with the philosophy and ideals of the Swami Vivekananda, the man who brought a change in the thought process of the youth. At the end of the session a copy of the book on the thoughts of Swami Vivekananda was distributed to all the students.
The N.S.S. unit and the RTN dance group together made the city proud yet again with their talent and grace on 7th January, 2018. Tamaso Ma Jyotirgamaya (TMJ), the world’s largest Walkathon against blindness organized by Advanced Eye Hospital & Institute, One Vision Health and Research Foundation is where our students participate across all the competition every year.
This year’s event conducted a theme – based contest to represent different states of our country. Our students put their heart and soul in bringing out all the flavors’ of Kerala which reminded the audience of auspicious Onam, the colorful Kathakali, the enthralling climate and many more elements through their costume. Thus, they deserving won the Best Costume Award.
Dancing is another form where our students left no stone unturned. Showcasing the daily plight of street dwellers through an engaging dance performance, the RTN dance group left the judges and audience to applaud loudest for them. Undoubtedly, they won the Best Dance Performance Award and whopping cash prize of INR 5,000/-.
All these efforts were highly appreciated by Mr. Vijay Patkar, a theater and television actor of Marathi movies and Bollywood, who was one of the celebrities supporting the social cause of fighting against blindness.
Events such as TMJ spreading social cause appreciates such budding artists so that they can convey serious messages through their creativity to help our city a better place to live in.
Prof. Shabab Rizvi, N.S.S. Programme Officer of Pillai College of Arts, Commerce & Science, New Panvel was appreciated and awarded by Rotary Club of Panvel Midtown for the selfless service rendered to the society.
For over a decade Prof. Shabab Rizvi has organized remarkable activities and he has also been a major contributor to the society. Through his dedicated service, his commitment to the goal has shown a level of service to society that is worthy of recognition.
