Faculty members and students of the Department visited “Rotary Club of Industrial Town Charitable Trust Residential School for Hearing Impaired” located at Panvel on 21st September, 2013 – Saturday. Stationery items, Sweets and Chocolates were distributed to the kids in the school. A few members of the faculty as well as some of the students spent quality time with them and made them “FEEL SPECIAL”.
The Financial Market department initiated Community programme which was spearheaded by Students of First Year, Second Year and Third Year students jointly. The Community service programme was organised along with the Departmental Fest – FESTOFINANZA on 6th February, 2013. The Rotary school for Deaf and Dumb students – New Panvel was invited as Guest of Honour. The Students gifted them handmade tiaras and distributed biscuits and chocolates. They also performed to entertain the children, which were an exhilarating experience for the School students. The students of Rotary school also performed which was an inspirational act, in spite of their Hearing Disability.
PCACS hosted residents from Ramkrishna Niketan and Rajeev Rajan Adhargrah, Shantivan, Nere (both shelters for elderly) on 2nd February, 2013 as part of the Community Service Day. Thirty Five elderly men and women, who have been staying there away from their children and family due to various issues, visited our campus on this day and spend quality time interacting with our teachers and student volunteers. Post Lunch and the multi-entertainment programme arranged by students of different institutes under MES, we assembled in Ground floor, Architecture studio and spend the rest of the afternoon, chatting, singing and dancing. The spirit and enthusiasm of the elderly was extraordinary, and made each of the teaching staff members to come forward and put forth some entertainment programme. Teachers of all the departments enjoyed the antakshari rounds. CSD, definitely is an idea well received by the staff and students and is well on the way towards forging a community partnership that changes lives. Many of our teachers were moved, with the interactions with the elderly and the student volunteers had a more matured outlook towards their parents and grand-parents.
Those cute, innocent kids really had a nice time playing and colouring with our students. The kids relished the cake and snacks arranged for the party. Our students took initiative to plant Vegetable plants and Fruit trees near those areas in Kharghar where under privileged people reside.
By this plantation people to get vegetables and fruits, which otherwise are beyond their reach. Also plantation would preserve the environment. The alarming height of accidents, tragic loss of thousands of human lives and enormous costs of the accidents on road virtually transformed this crucial crisis from nobody’s concern to everybody’s concern. Out of this concern, The Department conducted a “Road Safety Awareness Drive” in Panvel on 24th January, 2013.
Teachers from the Department of Biotechnology and the Vice-Principal contributed collectively around Rs.5700/- towards the balance fees of Ms. Fauziya a Second year B.Sc. Biotechnology student, whose family was experiencing economic difficulties.
Second Year students (S.Y.F.M.) of Financial Markets, lead by their class teacher Miss Bhavana Parab, on 17th February, 2012, visited Panvel Nagar Parishad School No – 6 and No – 7 at Dhakata Khanda, Panvel. They donated a set of school stationary consisting of pens, pencils, eraser, sharpener and scales to 115 students of the school. The students also donated Educational Charts prepared by them from old calendar as teaching aids for 5th, 6th and 7th standards class. Various games and a small skit were organized for entertaining the students.
Biotechnology Association students and staff members of Department of Biotechnology with children PRATHAM – An NGO working for the benefit of orphans and street children
As part of their social commitment, Department of Biotechnology and Biotechnology Association visited Pratham – a shelter home for under-privileged girls who were either orphans or belonged to a family who could not afford their basic schooling facilities. Twenty students from S.Y B.Sc. (Biotechnology) accompanied by the Dr. Rashmi Padhye, Mrs. Bindu Rajaguru and Mrs. Jyoti Kadam, visited the shelter home on 16th February, 2012.
During the visit cultural activities were performed by our students as well as the inmates, sweets were distributed and some clothes collected from students of our college were donated to the inmates.
On 16th February 2012, B.Com. A/F students and teachers, visited to the Zilla Parishad School, Nandgaon Katkarwadi where 26 students of primary section are studying and donated school bags and a weighing machine as per the school’s requirement. Towards this cause, students made a donation of ten rupees each.
