Mathematics and Statistics Association conducted Social Event for the second term on 23rd March, 2018. Association members provided lunch for homeless people around the Panvel Railway station.
On 22nd February, 2018, Economics Association of Pillai College of Arts, Commerce & Science, New Panvel organised a Hygiene Campaign in Raigad Zilla Parishad Primary School, Siddhi Karvale Village, Panvel, Raigad, in which the students of Economics Association visited the school. The aim of the campaign was to reduce rate of sickness among children through the simple but effective act of hand-washing. For this Economics Association installed Hand-Wash Dispensers in the School and also donated liquid soap packets. Our association students also made the children aware about the benefits of cleanliness and maintaining hygiene by washing hands. It was to create awareness for cleanliness under Government’s ‘Swachh Bharat Abhiyan’.
Students of F.Y.B.M.M. visited at Nagar Palika School situated in New Panvel as a part of ‘Social Service Activity’ on 24th January, 2018.
Cakes were distributed among the students on the pre-ceremony of Republic Day and activities like singing of patriotic songs and speeches were given to motivate the students.
The National Service Scheme of Pillai College of Arts, Commerce and Science, New Panvel organised a Social Camp in the adopted village, Siddhikaravle Taloja Phase 1 from 18th to 24th December, 2017. The social camp was hosted with the help of Municipal Corporation and former Sarpanch of the village. The main purpose of this camp was to promote ‘Swachhta’ in the village.
There were 100 volunteers under the surveillance of NSS Chief Program Officer of Pillai College – Professors Shabab Rizvi who did pre-planning, co-ordinating and executing of the whole camp with zeal. There were various activities planned and successfully executed like – Swach Bharat Abhiyaan, Eye check up camp, Painting walls, Planting Saplings, Teaching students of Zillaparishad School.
The volunteers also performed various skits and street plays on social evils which our prevailing in the society such as Alcoholism, Eve Teasing, Domestic Violence, Dowry, Swachta – to aware people about cleanliness etc.
The social camp also invited special lecturers for live sessions and throwing light on topics like – Disaster Management, Personality Development, importance of Eye Care and Eye Donation and Youth and AIDS awareness.
Some of the guests that graced us with their presence in the camp for guiding students on village life style and sustainability were Dr. Sudhakar Shinde – Municipal Commissioner, Mrs. Sandhya Mangesh Bavankule – Deputy Municipal Commissioner, Dr. B. S. Bidve – NSS Co-ordinator, Dr. Gajanan Wadar – Incharge Principal of Pillai College, Dr. M. A. Badgajar -Area Co-ordinator of NSS, Dr. Wani Murlidhar – District NSS Co-ordinator – Raigad, Mr. Shridhar Barajya Mahatre – Principal of ZP School, Siddhi Karole Village.
There were also some key people working in the department of Panvel Municipal Corporation who came to the camp to share their experiences and knowledge on Clean Management with the volunteers. They were Mrs. Jayashree Ravikant Mahatre, Mr. Santosh Baburao Bhoir, Mr. Dyaneshwar Suresh Patil and Mrs. Shital Dinesh Keni. The camp was structured and disciplined in nature. It was rich in knowledge and a movement to introduce human skills in the students.
The camp was conscious of not exploiting the resources of villagers and keep their consent as higher consideration. It was as a whole a fruitful experience for the college students and a helping hand for the residents of village with the guidance and active involvement of all the guests.
Students of Marathi Vangmay Mandal of Pillai College of Arts, Commerce and Science, New Panvel conducted Community Service on 13th September, 2017 in Girija Orphanage, Panvel. This orphanage has around 75 students under the age group of 10-20 years. Our Students entertained them by playing various games and giving away some prizes. Also made them understand the importance of discipline and Personal hygiene. The kids in this orphanage enjoyed a lot interacting with our students. Also students could learn the importance of everything they have today. They got an opportunity to serve for the society.
Blood Donation Camp 2017
National Service Scheme of Pillai College of Arts, Commerce and Science in association with St. George Hospital, Nair Hospital, J. J. Mahanagar Blood Bank and Wadia Hospital organized a Blood Donation Camp in the college premises on 22nd August, 2017. It began at around 9 a.m. and continued up to 4:30 p.m., with a steady stream of donors throughout. A blood bank team comprising doctors, nurses, and technicians helped the unit to organize the camp. Principal, staff and students displayed true humanitarian spirit, a hallmark of every Pillaite member by participating in the camp enthusiastically. The pride of the students for their teachers and the other fellow students was reflected on their faces while distributing certificates and refreshments to the donors. They thanked each donor profusely with gratitude saluting their spirit and for being an exemplary figure for the others.
At the end of the day over 500 bottles of blood were collected and the collected samples were given to St. George Hospital, Nair Hospital, J. J. Mahanagar Blood Bank and Wadia Hospital respectively.
Throughout the day, there were smiles and laughter all around – a true embodiment of what we believe in – selfless service with a smile.
