Community Service Day – 2014 was hosted by Mahatma Education Society on the 25th January, 2014 at the Dr. K. M. Vasudevan Pillai Campus, New Panvel. Pillai College of Arts, Commerce and Science, hosted 30 elderly residents of the Ramkrishna Niketan and Rajeev Rajan Adhargrah, Shantivan, Nere, Panvel. Asst. Professors Mrs. Kiran Deshmukh and Mr. Shabab Rizvi accompanied the guests from Shantivan to Panvel Campus and they were received at our campus at around 12:00 noon by our teachers.
A warm interaction session of the teachers with the elderly people was held prior to the sumptuous lunch organized for the visitors. There was a common entertainment program for all the beneficiaries of the Community service Day at the central quad. We had a separate session with the visitors where our teachers and students showcased various programs for them. These included a poetry recitation by Asst. Prof. Mr. Shardul Buva, a skit on drug abuse by the students of commerce section, dance by First year BMM and Biotechnology students (arranged by Asst. Prof. Ms. Bhavana Parab). We felicitated, with shawls, Mrs. Meera Tai for her untiring efforts at Shantivan and the eldest male and female member from the group. The visitors were treated to one day of fun and enjoyment which may have help ease their feeling of desolation by the society. They returned back with warm smiles and promises to visit next year around and our students and teachers had a time of introspection and reconciliation with the nuance of old age.
