The B.M.M. Department of Pillai College of Arts, Commerce and Science held the annual Red Carpet Ad Making competition on 25th September, 2019. The event focused on getting creative advertisements from the students of B.M.M. spanning across all three years. Student groups were required to make an ad of 1-minute length choosing from three categories – product, service or public service announcement.
The event was graced by the presence of film director Akshay Chandanshiv, who has worked in the industry for years. While giving advice to the B.M.M. students, he inspired them to never let the flame of your passion die out.
It was exciting to see the FYs take on the Red Carpet challenge superbly. The S.Y.s and T.Y.s continued to perfect their skills over time, with out of the box concepts. Last year’s winning advertisement was also showcased. It was an event where the B.M.M. students were divided by classes but united by creativity.
Pillai College’s Department of Bachelor’s of Mass Media organized a One Day National Seminar on “Communication and Soft Skills” on 26th August, 2019 for the benefit of the students of Pillai College of Arts, Commerce and Science. Mr. Avirat Shete and Mr. Kaizad Patel were the speakers for the National Seminar.
During the formal Inauguration session the Department Head i.e. Mrs. Prerna Sharma and the first speaker Mr. Kaizad Patel lit the lamp and started the event. The anchor introduced the speaker for the seminar and the felicitation took place for both the speakers. The very first speaker was Mr. Kaizad Patel who spoke about the soft skills mainly required in the corporate sector and how your communication can really affect the way you succeed in future. The power point presentation was very impactful and gave the students an insight into the life of the corporate sector and sales and marketing field. After Mr. Kaizad Patel’s very impactful speech the next speaker for the Seminar was Mr. Avirat Shete from Shete Institution. The Amazing man with knowledge from almost all the sectors of the world gave insight to not only the corporate field but in general how communication and soft skills will help a human being to excel in life. Likewise the presentation even here was very distinct. Mr. Avirat Shete gave examples and spoke about different sectors which one comes across in life leaving the crowd thinking.
At the end of the session the program concluded with feedback from students and vote of thanks by Coordinator.
The department of B.M.M. of Pillai College of Arts, Commerce and Science held a resume making session on 16th August, 2019 in the PCACS Campus.
All the students especially from the T.Y. B.M.M. Advertising and Journalism had attended the Session after the lectures at around 10.30 a.m. which held for around an hour.
The session started with an interactive discussion on what is a resume and what all is needed for it where the students discussed among each other and also answered the question. Then the session started wherein the resource person – Mr. Abhishek explained the concept with the help of a presentation putting the fact or bringing originality in one’s resume rather than just copying it from the internet. The session also helped the students to know that all that they wrote in their resume has to correct with all the facts and figures checked properly. The session helped the students to get closure towards how a good resume should be and how one can improve their resumes. A lot of questions got answered it was indeed a very helpful session for the T.Y. Students.
The FINANZA Association of B.Com. (Accounting and Finance) of Pillai College of Arts, Commerce and Science conducted One Day Intra Collegiate Festival Finacle 2019 on Thursday 1st August, 2019. The Committee was enthusiastic and happy for getting more than 70 participants from the college itself from various streams like B.Com.A&F, B.Com., B.M.M. and B.M.S. The participation of students of first year of all these classes was overwhelming. The inauguration was done by the head of the Department of B.Com. (Accounting and Finance) Dr. Abida Khan under the guidance of Prof. Sunita Saini and Prof. Chaitanya Athalye. The participants learned finance in a fun way through games such as Tally Ho-Jaa, Think Reverse, and Guess the price. The students also actively participated in Fun Games such as Fastest Mouth First, Whisper Music Challenge, Emoticon Dum Charades, Word Search and 4-Event Game wherein they learned co-ordination and Co-operation with enjoyment and fun. The winner of each game was given on the spot cash-prize and the winners of all the games and participants of Finance Games were facilitated with certificates as well.
The feedbacks of the participants were appreciating and they enjoyed the event and showed their interest to participate in the event next year as well. The event ended around 3:00 pm with Vote of Thanks by Prof. Sunita Saini.
One Day Workshop on “Revised Syllabus of F.Y. B.A.M.M.C. (new nomenclature), Semester-1”

On 20th July 2019, Bachelor Of Mass Media (B.M.M.) Revision Workshop was held in the Conclave of Pillai College.
This session was Conducted to discuss the Revised Syllabus of First year Students (Semester 1) in Association with the Board of Studies, B.M.M. Department, University of Mumbai. The session was Graced with the Presence of Dr. Sunder Rajdeep, Chairperson of Board of Studies (B.M.M. Department). Other Resource Person also Attended the Session who were the Syllabus Setter of the Revised Subject. They Discussed the Syllabus and Methods of Teaching and giving Assignment. The Session Provided Prominent Knowledge about the New Changes in the Department of Mass Media. It also Highlighted that the Bachelor of Mass Media will now be called as Bachelor in Arts in Multimedia and Mass Communication as per the New Nomenclature.
The B.M.M. Department had organised a movie outing for the T.Y. B.M.M. students on Wednesday, 3rd July, 2019.
The Outing was held After the lectures were done. All the Students Waited after the Lectures and Headed Towards the Bearby PVR cinema to Watch the Movie. Two of the main Subject Teachers Accompanied them for the Same.
The movie which was Selected was Article 15 as it Dealt about the Socio-political Atrocities Happening in the Rural Sections of India. The Movie was Majorly about how Difficult it is to Survive if one Raises his Voice in a Surrounding where Religion and Politics are Chosen over Humanity.

All the Students were Contented with the Outing and also had and Opinion about how the Movie was Shot and how well have they made it which was the Main Motive of this Outing. The Students were Asked to Write a Review on the Movie for the better Knowledge of their Perspectives.
The department of Mass Media conducted a Faculty Exchange Program for the students of Second Year of the subject Mass Media Research. A lecture on the topic Mean, Mode and Median taught by Prof. Sindhuja Joshi.
The lecture started by the introduction of the topic, how it is co related with the subject and its practical applications. Then professor explained the students 3 methods to find out the mean of given data. Several questions were practiced to understand the topic in depth. For better understanding of students, she solved all the questions on white board and answered everyone’s doubt. Lastly students were given few questions as home work for more practice.
It was a learning experience for all the students as they got different perspective of the subject.
Pillai’s College has always believed in providing the best opportunities to students, to enhance their future. In a move to reinforce this, a session was conducted by representatives of the Indian School of Media on 26th February, 2019.
The Indian School of Media offered students in the B.M.M. stream, a glimpse of their diploma programs. The diplomas offered were for both undergraduate and post-graduate course students. The institute has also conducted a contest for scholarship, which can be won on the basis of creative achievements of the students. Students were thrilled at this prospect of getting exposure about such renowned programs, with employment opportunities in desirable industry leaders.
The Indian School of Media is an IIT-IIM Alumni initiative, established in 2011.
The Department of Bachelor of Mass Media conducted Movie Screening session in the Auditorium on 22nd February, 2019. It was organized for all the students from First year till Third year.
In the movie screening session, the movie ‘The Post’ was shown to the students. The movie was a historical political thriller. The plot revolved around true story of attempts by journalists at The Washington Post to publish the Pentagon Papers, classified documents regarding the 30-year involvement of the United States government in the Vietnam War. The amazing movie gave the B.M.M. students an insight of the journalism world. Such program and efforts by the college help the student to learn through a different medium and experience new education techniques.
All the students enjoyed the streaming. It concluded with the students enjoying the classic but also learning through it.
The Department of Bachelor of Mass Media organized its first Golden Saturday with PCACS alumni and HT Cafe Journalist Gayathri Menon.
On 16th February 2019, the students of TYBMM were bestowed upon with a session related to the job opportunities based on Print Journalism. The session was conducted by PCACS Alumni Gayathri Menon, who shared her journey as an aspiring editor, juggling through various different magazine productions, until she found the perfect job for herself at HT Cafe. She spoke about the decisions she took, and the few regrets she gathered along the way. Her journey greatly inspired the students, who themselves are on the verge of creating their own unique stories.
