Teachers and students of B.Com. Accounting and Finance department visited Vanavasi Kalyan Ashram, Chinchavali, Nere, New Panvel on 3rd March 2015, Tuesday. Vanavasi Kalyan Ashram is a social institution of 30 orphanage children. It takes care of their studies, basic necessities, personal and social development. Mr. Dilip Barela is care taker of this ashram and children. We donated Rs. 7,300 (Seven Thousand Three Hundred) towards buying of printer for their official use for upliftment of children.

B.Com. Account and Finance students with their teachers visited Zilla Parishad School, Nandgaon Katkarwadi and donated school bags and weighing machine.
A social activity was conducted at Girija Ghar, Kharghar. The students had purchased groceries, oil, spices, books and games for the orphans which was contributed by the students themselves. The students played games with them.
It was very pleasant to see them liking the things provided by the students. We look forward to organize such events in future. The event was conducted on 15th January, 2015.
It is a small orphanage that consists of around 20 kids of age around 7 to 14 years. Games, gifts, eatable were provided from the donation collected from students.
With the ongoing activity of ‘Swachh Bharat Abhiyan’, the Department of Biotechnology on behalf of Biotechnology Association and Environment Analysis and Conservation Team (EnACT) organized a cleanliness drive and a dengue awareness programme on 11th December, 2014. The increasing cases of dengue and environmental pollution make it a need of the hour to highlight the necessity for cleanliness in the nation. Under the guidance of Dr. K. M. Srinandhinidevi, In charge, Biotechnology Association and Mr. Gopakumar Pillai, In charge, ENACT and Mr. Akhil Nair, Assistant Professor, Dept. of Biotechnology, more than seventy students actively took part in the drive and cleaned the area between Panvel Railway Station and State Transport Bus Depot (Old Panvel). The students explained the necessity for cleanliness, sanitation and hygiene for a disease free society with emphasis on measures to prevent dengue and malarial attacks to the public. People from different age groups also contributed to the campaign by actively working along with the students, which highlights the accomplishment of our objective.
Community Service Day – 2014 was hosted by Mahatma Education Society on the 25th January, 2014 at the Dr. K. M. Vasudevan Pillai Campus, New Panvel. Pillai College of Arts, Commerce and Science, hosted 30 elderly residents of the Ramkrishna Niketan and Rajeev Rajan Adhargrah, Shantivan, Nere, Panvel. Asst. Professors Mrs. Kiran Deshmukh and Mr. Shabab Rizvi accompanied the guests from Shantivan to Panvel Campus and they were received at our campus at around 12:00 noon by our teachers.
A warm interaction session of the teachers with the elderly people was held prior to the sumptuous lunch organized for the visitors. There was a common entertainment program for all the beneficiaries of the Community service Day at the central quad. We had a separate session with the visitors where our teachers and students showcased various programs for them. These included a poetry recitation by Asst. Prof. Mr. Shardul Buva, a skit on drug abuse by the students of commerce section, dance by First year BMM and Biotechnology students (arranged by Asst. Prof. Ms. Bhavana Parab). We felicitated, with shawls, Mrs. Meera Tai for her untiring efforts at Shantivan and the eldest male and female member from the group. The visitors were treated to one day of fun and enjoyment which may have help ease their feeling of desolation by the society. They returned back with warm smiles and promises to visit next year around and our students and teachers had a time of introspection and reconciliation with the nuance of old age.
The Department of Biotechnology and Biotechnology Association continued its campaign for women’s rights and safety by organizing a street play DASTAK (Voice against atrocities on women) by the students of the department of Biotechnology at the New Panvel Railway Station. Through the play students demanded that the government draw up a comprehensive plan to ensure women’s safety and that people react to such heinous crimes and also help victims who fall prey to such injustice. The play was Written, Directed and performed by the first and second year students of the B.Sc. Biotechnology stream. The play was based on the different threats faced by women in the country and was performed on the 24th January, 2014 it was a ten minutes play and stirred many emotions on the onlooker. The association is known and recognized for always taking up topics and themes that are off the beaten path and keep adding new elements to perceive and practice things.

The Bachelor of Management Studies (B.M.S.) students spend time with the little tiny tots of ‘Girja Orphanage’ located in Kharghar making their Christmas memorable.
The orphanage established in 2004, aims at saving life of the unfortunate children. Students had collected monetary donations from the B.M.S. department, which was utilized in providing snacks, soft drinks, cake and stationary. Our students dressed up as Santa Claus and on seeing the Santa arrived at their door step the children were pleased and excited about the evening. There was cake cutting along with a small dance party the event took place within 2 hours and the celebration filled the hearts of those children with joy. The faculty and the students really are thankful to of Mr. Vasant Kumar the president of the organization for providing a great opportunity to make this Christmas worthwhile.
