The Marathi Vangmay Mandal initiated a Community service programme. It was organized at Zilla Parishad School, Sukapur on Monday, 24th February, 2020.
The students had organized Drawing Competition for the students of the school. Drawing material was provided. The students awarded prizes for the best three drawings and distributed colors and chocolates.
We believe in inculcating in our students a sense of community and social responsibility. Students of Marathi Vangmay Mandal had discussion with Zilla Parishad school students and distributed them Hygiene material like Soap, Hand sanitizer etc on 16th January, 2020. Session was very helpful to students to understand how to take care of their health & hygiene.
Department of Mass Media conducted its community service under Arts and Media Association (AMA) on 14th June, 2017. Inspirational movie – ‘Chillar Party’ was screened for the students of NGO – Immanuel Mercy Home, Chiple, Panvel in the college campus. This movie aimed to inspire the kids about life with a blend of smartness, comedy and discovering the power within oneself. Snacks were served after the movie. It was a beautiful experience for the students as they appreciated and exchanged smile with the NGO kids.
Our Community Service Day was celebrated on the 21st January, 2017 at Dr. Vasudevan Pillai Campus. It brought together residents from various orphanages and old age homes. The N.S.S. Unit of Pillai College of Arts, Commerce and Science hosted residents from Ramakrishna Niketan and Rajeev Rajan Adharghat, Shantivan. Senior citizens from these ashrams visited our campus and they were treated to lunch, fun activities and a day of happiness with the aid of our teachers and student volunteers. The institution continues to stay connected with these organizations and continue to nurture them at an institutional level year after year to improve their quality of life.
We at Pillai’s believe in inculcating in our students a sense of community and social responsibility. The Financial Market department initiated Community Programme which was spearheaded by Students of First Year, Second Year and Third Year students jointly. The Community service programme was organized on 12th April, 2015 at Rotary school for Deaf and Dumb students – New Panvel. The Students gifted them with stationery items like pencils, crayon colors, drawing books and also distributed chocolates with the left over funds of farewell collections collected for T.Y. B.Com.F.M. students farewell.
Community Service Day – 2014 was hosted by Mahatma Education Society on the 25th January, 2014 at the Dr. K. M. Vasudevan Pillai Campus, New Panvel. Pillai College of Arts, Commerce and Science, hosted 30 elderly residents of the Ramkrishna Niketan and Rajeev Rajan Adhargrah, Shantivan, Nere, Panvel. Asst. Professors Mrs. Kiran Deshmukh and Mr. Shabab Rizvi accompanied the guests from Shantivan to Panvel Campus and they were received at our campus at around 12:00 noon by our teachers.
A warm interaction session of the teachers with the elderly people was held prior to the sumptuous lunch organized for the visitors. There was a common entertainment program for all the beneficiaries of the Community service Day at the central quad. We had a separate session with the visitors where our teachers and students showcased various programs for them. These included a poetry recitation by Asst. Prof. Mr. Shardul Buva, a skit on drug abuse by the students of commerce section, dance by First year BMM and Biotechnology students (arranged by Asst. Prof. Ms. Bhavana Parab). We felicitated, with shawls, Mrs. Meera Tai for her untiring efforts at Shantivan and the eldest male and female member from the group. The visitors were treated to one day of fun and enjoyment which may have help ease their feeling of desolation by the society. They returned back with warm smiles and promises to visit next year around and our students and teachers had a time of introspection and reconciliation with the nuance of old age.
The Financial Market department initiated Community programme which was spearheaded by Students of First Year, Second Year and Third Year students jointly. The Community service programme was organised along with the Departmental Fest – FESTOFINANZA on 6th February, 2013. The Rotary school for Deaf and Dumb students – New Panvel was invited as Guest of Honour. The Students gifted them handmade tiaras and distributed biscuits and chocolates. They also performed to entertain the children, which were an exhilarating experience for the School students. The students of Rotary school also performed which was an inspirational act, in spite of their Hearing Disability.
PCACS hosted residents from Ramkrishna Niketan and Rajeev Rajan Adhargrah, Shantivan, Nere (both shelters for elderly) on 2nd February, 2013 as part of the Community Service Day. Thirty Five elderly men and women, who have been staying there away from their children and family due to various issues, visited our campus on this day and spend quality time interacting with our teachers and student volunteers. Post Lunch and the multi-entertainment programme arranged by students of different institutes under MES, we assembled in Ground floor, Architecture studio and spend the rest of the afternoon, chatting, singing and dancing. The spirit and enthusiasm of the elderly was extraordinary, and made each of the teaching staff members to come forward and put forth some entertainment programme. Teachers of all the departments enjoyed the antakshari rounds. CSD, definitely is an idea well received by the staff and students and is well on the way towards forging a community partnership that changes lives. Many of our teachers were moved, with the interactions with the elderly and the student volunteers had a more matured outlook towards their parents and grand-parents.
