Literary Association of PCACS celebrated its first event of 2019-20 – ‘Battle of Wits – Block and Tackle’ on 18th September, 2019. Block and Tackle is a stand-out event from the conventional form of Debate where the contestants have to Block (Talk in against of the topic given) and Tackle (Talk in favor of the topic given). Prof. Akshata Narkar and Prof. Juliet Esther, Literary Association Teacher In-Charge judged the event.
It was first event of this academic year and yet we received an amazing feedback from the participants and that defines the main aim of Literary Association. After the participants enrolled themselves they were given some topics which are timely and relevant in our Country and hold crucial importance. After 5 minutes of preparations the participants were asked to speak for and against on the given topic. The game was all about the quick use of wit and presence of mind and the contestants truly did an amazing job.
All the contestants really gave a tough time to the judges to decide the winner but after a lot of deliberation the winners were announced. Felicitation was done by the Judges and the event ended on a happy note.
EDP Cell organised a Workshop on “Idea generation for Business Plan Competition” on 18th September, 2019 at 11.00 a.m. in conclave. The Guest Speaker for the session was Dr. Priam Pillai.
The session was attended by a total of 41 Students. The session was arranged with the objective to acquaint the students about the Business Plan Competition. The session began with problem identification. Sir explained in details how we can come up with great ideas by just identifying problems. The session was followed by a brainstorming session which gave a complete understanding to the students.
The entire session was refreshing and it boasts the confidence of our students. Students also raised a lot of doubts that was clarified by sir.
Pillai College of Arts, Commerce and Science, Marathi Vangamaya Mandal had organized “MY MARATHI Competition” on 14th September, 2019. The purpose of this competition was to increase their knowledge of Marathi language and inculcate the habit of using Marathi language in their day to day conversation. There were three rounds in the competition namely English to Marathi, Question Answer round, Tongue Twister. Total 16 students participated in the same event. Certificates were awarded to the winners & runners-up participants. The event was successfully conducted. Students found it very interesting and helpful.
Genesis 2019 was inaugurated on 9th September, 2019. Vice-Principal, Prof. Deepika Sharma along with B.M.S. Coordinator Prof. Nithya Varghese and Management Association In-Charge, Prof. Sharavathi C. inaugurated the fest by lighting the lamp.
Day 1 of Genesis 2019 (16th Sept, 2019)
Day 1 of Genesis 2019 started with the event ‘Walk of Corporates’ where our Alumni Mr. Emmanuel Fernandes, Mr. Prithvi Prasad, Mr. Hrishikesh Nair, Ms. Swathi Nair, Ms. Prachi Vanveru gave an inspiring speech about their time in this college and the Co Founders of ‘The Playlist’ Band of Pillai College Mr. Manohith and Danish who with their wonderful performance along with Swathi Nair mesmerised the whole auditorium. Followed by this, events like ‘The Hunt for the Ultimate Incentives’, ‘Wolf of Wall Street’, ‘Genesis Next CEO’ and ‘The Pitch went down as the marquee’ were conducted.
Day 2 of Genesis 2019 (17th Sept, 2019)
Day 2 of Genesis 2019 was an important day for Team Genesis, Management Association conducted a One Day Seminar on “Entrepreneurship Development and Business Simulation” with Resource Person Mr. Abheejit Dash, an IITian from IIT Madras and an Alumni of NMIMS from the batch 2019 who is right now working as Senior Manager in LTT, spoke on Time Management, his journey from 12th Std. to being an IITian and then a successful professional aiming for bigger things and being goal oriented and how to prepare for competitive exams in today’s environment. Mr. Justin Ancheta, a passionate brand strategist with a keen sense of Business Models is the director and Co-Founder of Bazana Foods Pvt. Ltd. and Founder of B2P Consulting LLC who spoke on marketing trends and strategies and how to grow skills relevant to ones hobbies and why the Entrepreneurial field is going to be the next big thing.
Mr. Tito Aby Idicula and Technological Enthusiast and Smart Worker, Co-Founder of Programming Hub who spoke about start-ups and how to develop a start-up. Then we had our own Ms. Gurpreet Kaur, an Alumni, an amazing writer, a Professor who has helped and inspired a lot of students, she spoke about the freedom of speech and about how we can develop into what we are meant to be. We had a BMS student among us, Mr. Rohit Patil, a second year B.M.S. student, who bombarded in the scene of YouTube as digital curator and he inspired students by speaking about his journey, about social media marketing, about how his YouTube channel which has 857K subscribers was made, it was all inspiring. The Seminar ended with a closing ceremony where the winner of 13 events conducted were felicitated with their certificates from our own Prof. Sharavathi C. Genesis 2019 was a grand success.
Navi Mumbai Colleges Association is an initiative of Pillai College of Arts, Commerce & Science, New Panvel to promote cooperation among neighboring colleges with a view of improving the quality of higher education in the region. As per the discussion on collaborative non-academic activities to be conducted under the banner of NMCA, an awareness program on Drug Menace was initiated. The NSS unit of Pillai College of Arts, Commerce & Science, New Panvel in association with NMCA and Asha ki kiran Foundation hosted Antidrug awareness Program on 29th August, 2019 at 11.00 a.m. Mr Ajay Kadam ACP, Crime Branch along with his team visited our campus and was one of the key speaker of the event. Students and Faculty from Vispute, Barns, Pillai HOC College and CKT College participated in the event. This is the first mega collaborative activity under NMCA and all member colleges benefited by the event.
Department of I.T. & C.S. organized a National Seminar on “Artificial Intelligence” on 28th August, 2019.
More than 300 participants attended the event, with 2 chief guests/guest speakers:
- Mr. Varun Singla, a Youtuber (under the channel name “Gate Smashers” with over 114k subscribers and a humongous 10 million + views) and an assistant professor from LPU, Punjab came all the way from Chandigarh to share his knowledge with the students. He started off with the basics and concluded his session with an example and hands on demonstration of the programming behind A.I. and Machine learning. His depth and knowledge of the subject clearly justified his 98.6 percentile in UGC GATE and NET exam
- Ms. Sowmya Jain, explained the scope and business end of the topic to all the participants
On 28th August Bottle Gardening activity was held and successfully completed by the members of Nature’s Club along with the guidance of Dr. Kiran Deshmukh Ma’am. The members of the Nature’s Club showed their active participation towards the bottle gardening. Around 25 members participated in the activity. The event begin with the division of members into groups and each group was assigned specific work such as cutting the bottles and wires, soil replacing, hanging bottles etc. After cutting the bottles and filling soil in it various plants such as money plants etc. were placed in bottles. The vertical bottle gardening gives a beautiful look to the Pillai Campus. The activity was successfully with the co-operation of each and every member.
Pillai College’s Department of Bachelor’s of Mass Media organized a One Day National Seminar on “Communication and Soft Skills” on 26th August, 2019 for the benefit of the students of Pillai College of Arts, Commerce and Science. Mr. Avirat Shete and Mr. Kaizad Patel were the speakers for the National Seminar.
During the formal Inauguration session the Department Head i.e. Mrs. Prerna Sharma and the first speaker Mr. Kaizad Patel lit the lamp and started the event. The anchor introduced the speaker for the seminar and the felicitation took place for both the speakers. The very first speaker was Mr. Kaizad Patel who spoke about the soft skills mainly required in the corporate sector and how your communication can really affect the way you succeed in future. The power point presentation was very impactful and gave the students an insight into the life of the corporate sector and sales and marketing field. After Mr. Kaizad Patel’s very impactful speech the next speaker for the Seminar was Mr. Avirat Shete from Shete Institution. The Amazing man with knowledge from almost all the sectors of the world gave insight to not only the corporate field but in general how communication and soft skills will help a human being to excel in life. Likewise the presentation even here was very distinct. Mr. Avirat Shete gave examples and spoke about different sectors which one comes across in life leaving the crowd thinking.
At the end of the session the program concluded with feedback from students and vote of thanks by Coordinator.
The NSS takes the initiative to educate students by organizing Leprosy Education, Rehabilitation and Treatment Campaign by an NGO, ALERT – INDIA every year. Donor cards are issued by Alert India and the college holds an incredible record in collecting and donating contributions to ALERT – INDIA. This year too the N.S.S. unit received award from ALERT – INDIA for the applaudable contribution given for leprosy eradication.
Kotak Education Foundation is an NGO. It supports children and youth from under privileged families through various education based interventions. N.S.S. Unit of Pillai College of Arts, Commerce & Science (Autonomous) has been collaborated with the KEF to bridge the gap with the Spoken English Programme, by training these students to understand and speak the language better. These efforts taken by the N.S.S. Unit has been recognized and has been awarded by Kotak Education Foundation for helping in remedial coaching in government schools in Govandi and Mankhurd areas
