On 1st October, 2019, Health Check-Up Committee organized a Workshop on “Body Fat Analysis”. It was conducted for the teaching and non-teaching staff of PCACS in the Conclave. Fitness experts Mr. Parasram Bajantri and Mrs. Harshala Bajantri educated the importance of fitness in our everyday life. The session included topics like body fat, metabolism and balanced diet. They had a very interactive approach throughout the session, which was liked the staff of PCACS.
Towards the end of the session, Mr. Parasram and Mrs. Harshala conducted free Body Fat Check-up using the hi-tech machines. Both teaching as well as non-teaching staff actively participated in the check-up.
Staff Welfare Committee conducted yoga session on Saturday 1st October, (Tuesday) 2019 at 8 a.m. to 9:30 a.m. in Old Canteen area for the Teaching and Non-teaching staff.
Mrs. Suvarna Anavkar gave a session on yoga, where she made teachers understand the importance of exercise and yoga, she conducted a practical session to make the staff aware of their importance of yoga. She also addressed the queries of the audience.
Staff welfare committee organized Diwali Celebration on 19th October (Saturday), 2019 at 10:00 a.m. in the Atruim for the Teaching and Non-teaching staff. Photo sessions and various Fun Activities along with refreshments were hosted.
MES Faculty Seminar 2019 under the aegis of MES Research Forum was conducted on 27th September 2019 at Dr. K. M. Vasudevan Pillai’s Campus. Prof. Ajit R. Kulkarni, Institute Chair Professor, Department of Metallurgical Engineering & Materials Science, Indian Institute of Technology, Bombay was the chief guest for the seminar. Dr. Avinash R. Vaidya, Head of the Department, Electronics and Telecommunication Engineering, Pillai College of Engineering, New Panvel and Dr. C. K. Sreedharan, Assistant Professor, Pillai Institute of Management Studies & Research, New Panvel were the moderators for the session. There were 14 paper presentations from the field of science, technology, commerce, management and education. This was a wonderful opportunity for budding researchers to present quality research papers and receive critical review of their research work. Dr. Rinkoo Shantnu, Chairperson and Dr. Farhat Shaikh, Secretary, MES Research Forum had organized the seminar.
Biotechnology Association of Pillai College of Arts, Science and Commerce conducted a singing competition on Friday, 27th September, 2019 in the Auditorium. About 12 participants took part in the competition where 9 were solo participants and 3 were in group. The Judge for the event was Mrs. Pushbam Shivkumar who is trained in carnatic music and also performs in stages shows.
The event began at 10:30 with a welcome address followed by an introduction of the competition by Mrs. Meenakshi Johri, In-charge of Biotechnology Association. Participants were given 5 mins and were allowed to sing in any language. Participants sang various songs of different genre ranging from classical to rock and made the whole atmosphere melodious. The audeinece were enthralled by each of the performance.
After all performance, even the teachers showed their hidden talents and amazed the kids. There were two solo prizes which was won by Sharanya Nair, MSc-1 student and Chrismon Shaji, FY.Bsc student. The group prize was won by Faiza and Group from S. Y. B.Sc.
The event ended with vote of thanks given by Mrs. Suparna Deepak, coordinator of BSc. People enjoyed and left for the day with amazing memories.
The B.M.M. Department of Pillai College of Arts, Commerce and Science held the annual Red Carpet Ad Making competition on 25th September, 2019. The event focused on getting creative advertisements from the students of B.M.M. spanning across all three years. Student groups were required to make an ad of 1-minute length choosing from three categories – product, service or public service announcement.
The event was graced by the presence of film director Akshay Chandanshiv, who has worked in the industry for years. While giving advice to the B.M.M. students, he inspired them to never let the flame of your passion die out.
It was exciting to see the FYs take on the Red Carpet challenge superbly. The S.Y.s and T.Y.s continued to perfect their skills over time, with out of the box concepts. Last year’s winning advertisement was also showcased. It was an event where the B.M.M. students were divided by classes but united by creativity.
N.S.S. unit of Pillai College of Arts, Commerce & Science and Railway Protection Force lead by Inspector General and Senior Police Force jointly conducted Swaccha Bharat Abhiyan program on 23th September, 2019 at Panvel Railway Station. NSS Volunteers engaged in cleaning the Panvel Railway Station and also generated cleanliness awareness among the masses.
Mr. Mehlam Gladyali of Pillai (PCACS) won 4 Gold medal winning first positions at Mumbai University Aquatic Championship held at Mumbai Mafatlal Swimming pool today. He won 50m, 100m, 200m Back stroke and 400m Individual midlay events. Also booked a birth for the forthcoming Indian University Swimming Championship at Jalandhar. Congrats to Mehlam the “Golden boy” 💐💐💐💐💐💐.
A National Level Seminar on “Biotechnology in Diagnostics” was organized by the Department of Biotechnology on Saturday 21st September, 2019. The seminar began with the inauguration ceremony followed by the keynote address by Dr. Rajesh Karla, an esteemed scientist from THSTI, Faridabad on Antibody Generation Technologies. His talk touched upon the crucial role of monoclonal antibody in diagnosing and combating of emerging viral diseases. This was followed by a session on CRISPR in Molecular Diagnostics, by Dr. Chitra Seethraman Misra, scientist from BARC, Mumbai. The talk enlightened the audience on the latest developments and applications of CRISPR, thought to be a revolutionary diagnostic tool of the recent years. The seminar was continued by Dr. Pathakota Gireesh Babu, scientist from ICAR-CIFE, Mumbai, who presented a talk on the current developments in molecular diseases using diagnostic tools.
This session was followed by a sumptuous lunch break along with 18 posters being presented by the participants. The participants had an exposure to informative posters and gained an experience in presenting scientific data. The poster evaluation round was followed by a session on various diagnostic techniques in management of diseases by Dr. Parineeta Samant from MGM Medical College, Navi Mumbai. The seminar was concluded with a valedictory function where in the award for the best poster and three consolation prizes were awarded. The enlightening seminar was well received by faculty and students alike.

A session was arranged on Wildlife and Conservation on 20th September, 2019 for Nature club’s members. Wildlife plays an important role in balancing the environment and provides stability to different natural processes of nature. Resource person for same was Mr. Sudeep Athavale. The session ended with the Students agreement of implementing 4R’s in their life. These four R’s was on ‘Refuse-Reduce-Reuse-Recycle’ of each thing which we use in daily life to conserve environment. 37 students participated for the session.
