Biotechnology Association in association with Department of Biotechnology organized a poster making competition – “Vistas in Biotechnology” on 9th March 2019, Saturday. Students from F.Y., S.Y. and M.Sc. – I participated in the event. The event began by 10 am and the judge for the event was Mr. Abhilash Das, Field Application Specialist – Biopharma, Spinco Biotech Pvt. Ltd. He is an alumnus of the department of Biotechnology. Posters on diverse topics were put up and students were given 7 minutes to explain their topic and three minutes to answer questions put forth by the judge.

The posters were judged and the results were announced soon. The first prize was awarded to Tanushri Rakshaskar and Rakshita Shetty from M. Sc. Part 1 for their poster “Anti-cancerous properties of carrot & beetroot” and the second prize was awarded to the Akhila Nair and Aditi Raju from F.Y. B.Sc. for their poster “Poly-cystic Ovarian Syndrome”. Both the winners were given a cash prize and a certificate. Mr. Abhilash gave personal comments and suggestions to all the participants to improve their poster making skills. The event was a great success and students got an opportunity to learn many new things.
Students’ Council of Pillai College of Arts, Commerce and Science celebrated Rose Day 2019 with Alumni on account of 50 Golden Saturdays with Alumni.
On 8th March 2019, Alumnus Ms. Prachi, Mr. Sahil, Mr. Ashish and Mr. Nabil were invited to celebrate the event. The preparation of the event was started a week before with a desk set up in the canteen area to register the dedications. The dedications were announced on Rose Day, where the dedicated person would be given a rose with chocolate.
As part of the main event, Rose Day had various performances of dance, singing and poem recitation. The major highlight of the event was the fashion show presented by UCONIC team. It felicitated student council students who have dedicatedly worked for three years in the respective fields.
The Rose Day event was carried out smoothly with the help of the present Students’ Council Members. Being the last event of the year, students celebrated it in full excitement. The event concluded with DJ.
Department of IT/CS celebrated the Golden Saturday with Alumni on account of completion of 50 years of M.E.S in 2020. The event was held on Saturday, 2nd March, 2019.
The event was organized by Computer Association Committee of IT/CS department consisting of students and faculty members.
The event started by the lamp lighting ceremony done by our alumni and began with the award ceremony felicitating the alumni and students of IT/CS department who brought laurels to the college by participating and winning in various sport events, competitions organized by the University Of Mumbai.
Annual award was distributed along with a session on “Inspirational Stories by Alumni” for which Mr. Amandeep Singh, Mr. Nitish Patil, Mr. Ravindra Vilas Malpute, Mr. Shashank Pathare, Mr. Sukhdeep Singh, Mr. Tanay Vilas Patil, Mr. Varun Nair, Mr. Vikith Jain, Mr. Ankit Goregaonkar, Mr. Prashant Shivhare, Mr. Bishal Bose, Ms. Basanti Pun and Mr. Sanket Chinatamani Gangare, alumni of I.T & C.S were invited as guest. There was an award ceremony as well for the students of all departments, who excelled in extra-curricular activities such as sports, inter-college project competitions, gaming events, technical events, etc. These winners were felicitated with certificates by the alumni.
The function also witnessed some amazing dance performance, singers singing in their melodious voice which was appreciated by everyone present for the event.
The event concluded by the most prestigious award of the department that is the ‘Student of the Year’ award.
On 28th February 2019, Health Check-Up Committee organized a Workshop on “Dental Health”. It was conducted for the teaching and non-teaching staff of PCACS in the Conclave. Dr. Shantana Satish Bartakke educated the importance of dental health through an interactive session named ‘Mouth Matters’.
The session included topics like oral hygiene importance and methods. She emphasized on the easy ways of maintaining the dental health. Dr. Shantana had a very interactive approach throughout the session, which was liked the staff of PCACS.
The department of Mass Media conducted a Faculty Exchange Program for the students of Second Year of the subject Mass Media Research. A lecture on the topic Mean, Mode and Median taught by Prof. Sindhuja Joshi.
The lecture started by the introduction of the topic, how it is co related with the subject and its practical applications. Then professor explained the students 3 methods to find out the mean of given data. Several questions were practiced to understand the topic in depth. For better understanding of students, she solved all the questions on white board and answered everyone’s doubt. Lastly students were given few questions as home work for more practice.
It was a learning experience for all the students as they got different perspective of the subject.
Pillai’s College has always believed in providing the best opportunities to students, to enhance their future. In a move to reinforce this, a session was conducted by representatives of the Indian School of Media on 26th February, 2019.
The Indian School of Media offered students in the B.M.M. stream, a glimpse of their diploma programs. The diplomas offered were for both undergraduate and post-graduate course students. The institute has also conducted a contest for scholarship, which can be won on the basis of creative achievements of the students. Students were thrilled at this prospect of getting exposure about such renowned programs, with employment opportunities in desirable industry leaders.
The Indian School of Media is an IIT-IIM Alumni initiative, established in 2011.
B.M.S. Department commenced the Golden Saturday’s Celebration on 23rd February, 2019 with a practical session for second year and third year marketing elective students. The session was on ‘How To Manage Client Relation And How To Get Clients?’ It was conducted by Mr. Arjith Wadhva, Founder and Proprietor, AR Graphics. He is alumni of B.M.S. department 2013-14 batch.
In the session Mr. Wadhva discussed about 6 golden rules of client relations:
- Client time is your money
- UNDER Promise and OVER Delivery
- Don’t Burn Bridges With Pettiness
- Set Mutual Goals
- Build Credibility Over Time
- Be Transparent and Human
Students had practical session on ‘How To Sell Your Product?’ and ‘How To Value Your Customer?’ The session ended with a thanking note by Mr. Febin George.
The Department of Bachelor of Mass Media conducted Movie Screening session in the Auditorium on 22nd February, 2019. It was organized for all the students from First year till Third year.
In the movie screening session, the movie ‘The Post’ was shown to the students. The movie was a historical political thriller. The plot revolved around true story of attempts by journalists at The Washington Post to publish the Pentagon Papers, classified documents regarding the 30-year involvement of the United States government in the Vietnam War. The amazing movie gave the B.M.M. students an insight of the journalism world. Such program and efforts by the college help the student to learn through a different medium and experience new education techniques.
All the students enjoyed the streaming. It concluded with the students enjoying the classic but also learning through it.
