Computer Association organized an orientation lecture for the First Year Bachelor of Information Technology (B.Sc.I.T.) students in the college auditorium on 27th July, 2018. The main aim behind this orientation lecture was to make students of F.Y. B.Sc.I.T. know what the Computer Association is and what kind of events it organizes.
The event started with a brief introduction to the students about the Bachelor of Information Technology (B.Sc.I.T.) course and what all things they will be able to do after the course is completed. They were also informed about the functioning of Computer Association. It included a brief introduction of a social event that the association had recently organized in Dyan Jyoti Savitribai Phule Mahanagar Palika School. The Second Year and Third Year students went to this government school to create awareness about the harmful effects of plastic and what other things they can use as a substitute to plastic. They were also shown video clips of the earlier social events handled by their department.
Further, the students of F.Y. B.Sc.I.T. were briefed about their departmental fest – “Bitfest – Everything Starts with A Bit”. It is considered as one of the biggest college festivals of Mumbai and Navi Mumbai. The First Year students were briefed through a video, to make them understand what goes in making the Bitfest successful. It specifically had an example of last year’s fest, where a gaming event – Ludo, received the maximum entries.
The event concluded with Prof. Deepika Sharma’s insightful speech, in which she briefly told them about what Computer Association means to its each and every member and the hard work that goes behind to make every event successful of the department.
The event ended on a reminder, regarding the technical event of Computer Association, which was organized for the first year batch.
On the occasion of Kargil Vijay Diwas, the Bachelor of Commerce department organised a free of cost lecture for the students. It was conducted on 26th July, 2018 at 10:30 a.m. on the third floor, conclave. This seminar lecture covered the topic of career options in the defence sector. The speaker of the seminar was Retd. Major Vinay Degoankar. He guided the students on how they can make a career in defence and serve the nation. The speaker shared his experience in the defence field. The students actively participated in the seminar making it an interactive one.

In the year 1999, the Kargil War was initiated in between India and Pakistan in the Kargil district of Kashmir and along the Line Of Control (LOC). Therefore, 26th July is celebrated as Kargil Vijay Diwas, in order to pay respect for the martyrs of the Kargil war. Every year, the Prime Minister of India pays his/ her homage to the soldiers at Amar Jyoti at India Gate.
On 26th July, 2018, The National Service Scheme Unit of Pillai College of Arts, Commerce and Science conducted an extensive plantation programme. It was held at the adopted village of Siddhi Karole in Kharghar, Navi Mumbai. This environmental drive was observed to restore the eco-balance of the afforestation. The NSS volunteers were highly enthusiastic about it and did it wholeheartedly and made this campaign a great success. The students planted saplings, fenced them and watered the plants. The general public was encouraged by looking at the enthusiasm of the students doing the deed. This drive created a great stir among the society.
Due to urbanization, the animals are losing their natural habitat and also it has bad effects on the environment and hence it causes climatic change. Trees are like the lungs of the planet and we must take some small steps to conserve it.
On 25th July 2018, the Department of Bachelor’s of Mass Media in association with Arts and Media Association hosted an Acting Seminar. The Seminar was taken up by Tabrez Shaikh in the Conclave. The First Year students of B.M.M. department attended the seminar.
Tabrez Shaikh is the owner of Acting Academy. He is known for his apt communication skills. He introduced to the Basics of Acting and Personality Development. The seminar further took up topics like ‘Communication Skills’, ‘Being Presentable’ and ‘Increasing Confidence’. It was a very interactive session where students were called up on the platform to enact random given scenes. With Question-Answer rounds and a Doubt Solving session, the seminar was a beneficial one. The students were able to explore a new field in the B.M.M. branch. Students interested in acting got a broader look about the field and the other students went back with a view on overall Self Improvement.
On 23rd July 2018, Monday, the Fresher’s Orientation Session took place in Pillai College of Arts, Commerce and Science. It was the first day for the First Year students of the academic year 2018-19. The students seemed excited to start a new journey of their college life. They entered the college through the Gate No. 2 of the campus and were directed to the respective classes with the help of the faculties.
On the first day, the class teacher of each batch listed students about the guidelines they have to maintain in the college. It included the specifications about the rules and regulations, syllabus design, semester examinations, paper pattern and conduction of examinations. They were also informed about the various associations of each department in which they would get to work and help them get exposure of new opportunities. The Orientation day, also included a session where alumni students of their respective courses visited the fresher’s batch and shared their experience along with the do’s and don’ts of the college.
Students were familiarized with the benefits the college provides like Railway concessions and the other college activities. The mandatory information like issuing of Identity cards, examination forms and defaulters were instructed to the students on the very first day.
This year, Pillai College of Arts, Commerce and Science completed 20 years of contribution in education. Therefore, special books and batches were distributed to the first year students. All the students actively participated in the orientation session, which was a delightful sight.
The Department of I.T. & C.S. in association with Ad-Hoc B.O.S. in Information Technology, University of Mumbai organised a Workshop on “Revised Syllabus of T.Y.B.Sc.I.T. Sem V in the subject of LINUX Administration”. The event was conducted on Sunday, 22nd July, 2018.
Dr. Hiren Dand (H.O.D.) of I.T. Department of Mulund College of Commerce, also a member of A.D- HOC Board of Studies in I.T. was the guest of honor for this event. Professor Mandar Bhave of D.G. Ruparel College of Arts, Commerce and Science was also one of the resource persons. The session was attended by Assistant Professors of over 38 different colleges affiliated to the University of Mumbai.
The Placement Cell of the college had organized a ‘Career Guidance Session’ for the third year students of B.Sc. I.T., B.Sc. C.S., B.Sc. Biotechnology, B.Com., B.M.S., B.Com.F.M., B.M.M. and B.Com.A&F. It was conducted in the Auditorium on 14th July, 2018, Saturday.
The event was inaugurated by the Head of the Placement Cell, Mrs. Padmaja Ganti. Followed by Ms. Tanvi Vadke, member of the Placement Cell, who guided the students all the rules and regulations related to placement. Over 400 students were part of this session.
The event was bestowed by the presence of the alumni of the college, who are now well placed in renowned software companies. They guided and shared their work experience with the third year students who attended the seminar. The alumni that were invited for the event were: Mr. Akshay Desai, Project Manager at Lion Bridge, Mr. Bishal Bose, Test Engineer at Infosys, Mr. Sitaram Pednekar, MS.SQL DBA at Clover Infotech, Mr. Nainarnatrajan Konar, Senior Software Engineer at Golden Source International.
The topics that were covered in the seminar were, ‘Whether to opt for post graduation or not?’, ‘How to select desired company?’, ‘How to select the correct career path?’, ‘How to face the campus interview?’, ‘The different categories of job opportunities in the IT industry’ and ‘Do’s and don’ts for a technical interview’.
The seminar will be helpful for the students to make a career decision, also in their further studies and job opportunities in the future.
