On 22nd August, 2017 “Thalassemia Awareness & Testing Camp” was organized by the N.S.S. Unit in association with Parents Association Thalassemia Unit Trust, Mumbai. This camp was conducted under the guidance of N.S.S. Programme Officer Prof. Shabab Rizvi. The camp started at 9:00 a.m. and students were encouraged for Thalassemia testing. The camp was well executed with the able support of staff members, lab technicians and all the volunteers of the event. The camp was successful to complete 650 participants of different age groups being tested. This camp ended with smile on the faces of the coordinators, who were happy to create awareness about thalassemia in the campus.
Department of B.Com. Accounting & Finance organized Alumni Meet on 19th August, 2017. 145 Alumni from different batches of 2009 to 2016 attended and made it successful with their presence. Department teachers and students planned various entertainment events such as group dance, singing, games and interaction sessions for alumni.
With the objective to educate public about the adverse effects of plastic bags on the environment and to provide ways for them to make a difference Anti-Plastic Campaign was organized by thirteen of our S.Y. B.Sc.I.T. students on 17th August, 2017 in New Panvel area. The students made paper bags out of old newspapers and distributed to roadside vendors and shopkeepers.
On 17th August 2017, Department of Biotechnology and Biotech Association held “Best Out of Waste” Competition to inculcate students with the concept of making useful things out of waste materials using their creativity. It turned out to be a great success with students participating very enthusiastically.
Every group had an unique idea in making a beautiful product out of materials which were merely kept to be disposed off. It was a stupendous platform to see used bottles, old cloth, newspapers, CD’s, used pots and many more being transformed into such attractive products.
The Judges for the same, Professor Gopalkrishnan Pillai, Faculty member and Trustee of Pillai’s Institute and Professor Shabab Rizvi, Faculty member of Department of Economics and Head of N.S.S. Unit of PCACS were amazed by the innovative ideas of students. Even though only few groups managed to win, every group was a winner with their unique idea of making best out of waste.
