The NSS unit jointly with the NGO Youth for Global Peace & Transformation conducted self exploratory workshop on “Discover yourself through strengths & weaknesses. The special speaker of the day was Ms. Anuradha Bhatkar. This interactive session was held on 29th September, 2020 at 5:00 p.m. in Zoom. The motivational workshop enabled the participants to understand the process of discovering oneself, how to transform weakness into strengths and utilize strengths to realize infinite potential within. All the students and faculty members participated and were highly benefitted by the session.
The NSS unit in association with Navi Mumbai College Association of PCACS organized a webinar on “Psychological Impact of Covid-19” on 28th August, 2020 at 5:00 p.m. The Resource speaker for the webinar was Ms. Hema Subramanium, Freelance counselor and Corporate Trainer. COVID-19, like every other pandemic, has imposed an unprecedented threat to physical and mental and psychological health of the people, across all the age groups. This webinar focused on the required knowledge, attitude and behavior of the people regarding this pandemic and how it influences their depression, anxiety and stress level. The speaker also addressed the mechanism to successfully deal with the COVID-19 pandemic by enhancing immunity and mitigating the risk. Faculty members and students from different departments participated in the webinar.
Independence Day – Celebrated Online
On the occasion of Independence Day the NSS unit organized a webinar on “Importance of Constitution of India”. It was conducted on 15th August, 2020 at 11:00 a.m. on Zoom platform. Prof. Sudhir Puranik graced the program as the Chief Guest. Adv. Poonam Gupta, Assistant Professor, Pillai College of Arts, Commerce & Science (Autonomous) gave an informative session on the “Importance of Constitution”. Students, Faculty members and the NSS volunteers’ attended the webinar. E-certificates were issued to all the participants
The NSS unit in association with United Way Mumbai organized Free Online Training on Hepatitis B&C on 12th June, 2020. This training covered areas like: What is Hepatitis? Its signs and symptoms, Types, Transmission, Stages, Importance and Prevention of Hepatitis B. The Training was conducted on the Zoom platform. E-certificates were mailed to the participants after the successful completion of the online training program.
The Finanza Association of B.Com. Accounting and Finance had organised a Visit to Dalal Street to participate in the Lit Fest organised by the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE). The fest was a two day event in which various dignitaries from different backgrounds addressed the audience with their views. The event started with beautiful performance of flute and then the motivating speech of Gaur Gopal Das gave everyone a light on way of living one’s life. Then there was a discussion on Rain water harvesting and conservation by Sir Samuel, founder of Indus Waters Treatment Plant.
Other than formal activities, there were stalls of various items such as Live Ice-cream Shop, Live earthen pot making, stalls of tea and coffee, etc. to give people a real hand experience of how things are made. Overall, the event was a success and attending it proved to be good for all.
The National Service Scheme of Pillai College of Arts, Commerce & Science (Autonomous) made a sincere effort to conduct online corona virus awareness program on 22nd April, 2020. Covid-19 awareness quiz was created using Google Forms. The objective was to create more social awareness about the pandemic. The NSS volunteers, students and staff members were encouraged to take on the quiz to increase awareness regarding the disease, ways to stay safe and understanding facts. Students and staff members actively participated and received e-certificates of participation on taking the quiz.
On the occasion of International Women’s Day, Pillai Group of Institutions had organised an essay writing competition for the students of MES, New Panvel Campus. The topics for the essay competition were ‘Breaking the Glass Ceiling, Women Empowerment and Education, Inspiring Women – one Indian example, Women in Tech – opportunities and challenges, Unsung Women Heroes’. 15 students of Pillai College of Arts, Commerce & Science participated out of 40 students from Pillai Group of Institutions.
Literary Association is collaboration with Value Education Committee organized an activity on 29th February, 2020. Students were shown a video clip on importance of segregating Dry waste and Wet Waste in two separate bins. After watching the video, students were asked to write a review on it. Total 32 students were part of this activity. Prof. Akshata Narkar went through the write-ups and selected the two best reviews. As part of the activity, proper sanitation values were taught to the students through this video.
